Speaking of which I just caught up on the fan translation and right before the final battle this happens

It's like if the fishing rod from Hunter x Hunter got a sendoff. It's not even sentient like the suit is it's just a regular briefcase he puts the suit in. I love this manga.

There's a ghost themed anime i think it's Ghost Hunt? Anyone seen it? Heard good things
Own the series and think it's pretty good, haven't rewatched it in a while though. I don't know if I'd consider it super spooky besides maybe the last arc (Bloodstained Labyrinth) which I remember freaking me out a bit, you're in it more for the fun cast exploring haunted places. Series also has a pretty memorable Christmas episode because I still get depressed thinking about it, that and the last arc are the stand outs in my opinion. Don't know if it makes a difference, but I only ever watched it dubbed since it was one of those early anime I got into, which I found pretty decent and would recommend checking out if possible.

Slow paced, but I think you'll have fun if you like those paranormal investigation shows since it apparently captures that pretty well. Think it does a pretty good job capturing atmospheric horror with the different places they investigate. Only big negative I can think of is the usually problem with adaptions that don't have the time to go as in depth as the source material, coupled with it likely never getting a second season. Thankfully it seems that the LN got fantranslated, might check it out myself, since it's completely translated.

Also has a pretty spooky main theme:

I came across this one back in 08-09, iirc. Pretty great, but unfortunately it never got renewed for a second season.

Two episodes in, Idaten and Sonny Boy have some pretty neat visuals so far, though the rape scene in Idaten was unique.
The super powers in Sonny Boy are pretty interesting as well.
The jankiness of Getter Robo is actually pretty nostalgic ngl.

Well, finally finished Shigurui.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ENDING.
Great now I really gotta go read it. Not gonna lie, the whole part with Fujiki doing CPR on sensei, I couldn't stop laughing? Like it just felt so ridiculous to me but it just.. worked.

Anyone got any other gory recommendations outside of the usual? (Elfin Lied, Higurashi, Hellsing, Another, Madoka, Devil Man,etc.)
Length doesn't matter nor does the genre. I can handle a decent amount of gore, but i'm not super keen on torture porn.

The character designs, some of the animation, and the style is straight out of classic mecha shit like the 90s Getter Robo OVAs but other parts like the CGI and some of the backgrounds (pretty much anything technology, like the laboratory) clash with the style and feels like most late 00s/10s mecha shows.

I really did like the flashback to Getter Robo Go in episode 2. I hope they have more scenes like that in this adaption.

If you haven't seen these older titles, I'd definitely recommend: 3x3 Eyes, Apocalypse Zero, Angel Cop, Genocyber, Lily C.A.T. and MD Geist. For "newer" anime: Asura, Blood-C, Corpse Party, Gantz and Rin: Memories of Mnemosyne.

Corpse Party
Honestly, I'd direct newcomers to Corpse Party to the manga if they don't want to play through the game itself. The OVA is practically a "greatest moments" speedrun and goes for a bad end that honestly doesn't make sense if you don't know the true context of the game.

Modern fans would claim it to be too old, unfortunately, so it's not really even a "newer" anime at this point outside of the movie. Still is sad the series seems to have been ignored, although the infamous anime ending may have done more harm than good.

So as the one person who loves both Adachi baseball manga and Isekai series, I finally found a series that combines the two - In Another World Where Baseball Is War, A High School Ace Will Save The Country. It’s a goofy premise, a lot like No Game, No Life, but it runs with it and it’s a lot of fun.

If you like any of Adachi’s stuff, or Rookies or Last Inning (which appears like it was abanadoned :(), you’ll probably enjoy it.

How did the anime end? I’ve only watched the manga and I assumed it was just left incomplete after the first big arc like most unfinished adaptations.

Maybe try Guyver or Ninja Scroll.

Dude no. Genocyber and MD Geist aren't for even the slightly fainthearted.

Passed those already mentioned:
-Parasyte: First couple episodes are rough before they beat back the sound guy for his overuse of dubstep. Very solid sci-fi story with strong body horror elements.
-Vampire Hunter D (2000): Slick movie that (I think) was gory, been a while since I watched it.
-Highschool of the dead: Don't know if this would count as the usual, but it's a solid zombie apocalypse anime with great action. Ecchi can get a little much, but the ridiculous nature of it makes it more passable to me.
-Garden of Sinners: Movie series of varying quality that has some very tight fights that can get pretty gory, been a while since I've watched them through though so it might not be on the level you're looking for.
-Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal: Don't need to have seen anything from the Kenshin series since this is a prequel, much more darker and gory than the main anime. Semi-related, but if you end up liking it I'd honestly recommend the live action movie series over the anime. Great series of films that adapt the manga, while taking some liberties, that just recently had the final two films release this year that cover the end of the manga + the prequel series of Kenshin's past similar to the ova.

Find it kind of sad how little gory/horror anime I actually know since I'm a big fan of horror films, just feels like a lot doesn't get produced. Like Japan can pull off some great live action horror, but it seems like it just doesn't translate that well to anime because you get stuff like Another where most people view it as a comedy.

I've heard of a few of these, but corpse party is one of the ones i'm kind of on the fence with? I guess I should've established what my limit was but like, really as long as it isn't saw torture porn or nail horror (higurashi) I'll sit through it more or less? All I know is a girl gets her tongue cut out in corpse party but I don't know if it gets worse from there or if that's like the like- the peak if that makes sense? But i'll probably check a few of these out regardless!

I've actually seen genocyber tbh. Not that bad, legit the main reason I saw it was after googling some "most goryest anime" stuff and I was directed to the photo of the one lab guy and his skin was flayed off. They had the whole thing on youtube and it MIGHT still be there, but I don't think I ever finished it. Geist looks interesting, even if I have no idea what it's about.

These i'm also familiar with, but haven't checked them out yet. I might give them a go, especially vampire hunter D since i've heard about that one the most. Highschool of the dead i've also beat around the bust and I just need to sit down and watch it more or less. I did try to keep up with parasyte when it came out, but the fact it was one of the adult swim late night things and I was just lazy waiting every week was why I stopped.

Thank you farmers I shall check this all out in time because sometimes the itch needs to be scratched.
I do wish there was more gore released? You'd think they'd do that I mean I guess it's some what nichie and might not pump as much money as ecchi or idol stuff?

Edit: since i'm thinking of it here's my dumb "horror" faves incase somebody wants to check it out? I'll try to keep some casual stuff out but I have to give a shout out to berserk and jojo at least since that's my jam.

Pet Shop Of horrors: I can't even say it's "horror" anymore? It started out like that but as the story went on about Leon and Count D. it became less about the horror and pets more about their relationship and the mystery surrounding Count D. (no it's not BL by any means btw)

Violence Jack: Go Nagi goes balls to the walls hard with this one. I can't really recommend this to a new comer mainly due to all the rape, and tons of violence. Some people call it down right disgusting, but I mean fair enough.

Original Devil Man: I like it more than cry baby, thats just me.

Urotsukidoji legend of the overfiend: More on the supernatural side, only half way thru the movie, but it's pretty damn good. Tentacle shit, but the monsters in it are pretty great to look at, also can't recommend it to a newcomer either. Its about a guy who's here to find the chojin (big scary demon essentially) and save the world while fighting demons.

Hell Teacher Nube: more of a comedy horror, but I got introduced to it via j-stars victory plus. It's about a school teacher who solves his student's problems via using a demon sealed in his left hand. The op is catchy as all hell and the series needs more love tbh.

Special shot out to Kaiji: not horror, more of a psychological thing, but I mean it scared me more than a lot of horror animes since Kaiji doesn't even have protag plot armor to save his ass and some scenes in it made me squik a little. If your at the pachinko ark, you know the part.

lol, the anime sucked but this is fucking perfect.
Come to think of it, Rosario + Vampire is probably the best picture perfect "The Manga is better" work in existence. Been a long time since I've seen an anime that deviated from the source material though, but that's just 'cause I don't watch as much anymore.
