Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for them on the Olympics. Scandals, odd rules being questioned. The list goes on.

I fear the Olympics are forever never to be the same.

For me as a spectator I never understood the purpose of having the games all held in one location. A person who goes to see Weightlifting is unlikely to also want to watch Water Polo.

If the Olympics were held in 4 cities across the globe at the same time each with different events you would get 24 hour viewing, plus a more relaxed atmosphere and far less budget hurdles from cities. Most large cities could handle 25% of the traffic from an Olympic event os having it hosted in 4 cities would be good for all.

Let's not pretend the women's beach volleyball isn't Twitch-level softcore pornography at the least. Fit young women in bikinis frequently hugging each other? I fapped to much less in my coomer days.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the skateboarding tonight.

Random thought: not sure how I feel about skateboarding being an Olympic event. From the way the 'athletes' appear, the cringe commentary, and the subjective clusterfuck of judging, I just feel like it shouldn't be there at all.

I say this as someone who loves skateboarding, and was sponsored in my mid-teens. It just doesn't have the respectability that other sports have, as autistic and elitist as that may sound.

Keep that shit in the X-games, it was doing just fine.

I'm a retired skater too, I would say it's not about "respectability" so much as the nature of the sport. There's nothing wrong with wacky adrenaline sports being separated from traditional solo and team sports, in fact it's more fun that way. This is the age of globohomo though, so everything has to be shoehorned into places it doesn't really belong.

I've never been a huge fan of street skating competitions anyway. Vert tends to be much more fluid and it makes more sense for a judged comp. Street only looks good after weeks of pain and extensive video editing. It's impossible to consistently land big-ass street tricks that involve retarding the board around, and all the comps I've ever seen have guys constantly bailing and only managing lines that were technically outdated 20 years ago. This aspect makes the judging especially moronic. It would probably make more sense to have separate untimed obstacle runs, get 10 tries to do your best shit for the camera on each one, select which of the 10 landed tricks (if any lol) go up for judgement, then roll points over from each run into a total.

This is not Idiocracy, by the way.

This was a real headline.

Don't know what's up with you debbie downers. I enjoyed the hell out of that skateboarding show. Yeah, there was a lot of bailing, but that's part of the show, isn't it? Even if you watch highly-edited skateboarding videos, they always include a few bails. If you asked me which country's kid would get the gold, I would have picked Japan last, but that kid was a damn natural.

Anyway, there will be vert competitions later if you'd rather see that. I'm looking forward to those too.

Hubbard is competing on August 2nd, (Women's weightlifting 87kg and 87kg+)
I honestly wished it happened earlier. I cannot wait for it. The ladies over at Ovarit spotted an interesting fact about the profiles for women's Olympic weightlifting:
There is an extreme meme potential here imo, I have tried making one but the quality isn't great.

Look at the photos of these women. All looking straight ahead, minimal smiles at most.

and then you have Hubbard

I thought it was a joke at first. Even the photo quality is much higher (beside the lighting) if you save the images.

Archive link in case the IOC realizes how bad it looks. https://archive.is/wip/oVINm

Please spread this, I need to hear a joke from Graham about this ffs. This is beyond parody

Saw the Opening Ceremony and the Parade of Nations.

Spoiler Alert: A handful of third-world countries and Paris tried something different and brought some energy to the walk. Everyone else looked boring as shit - even Japan - and looked like they had just stepped out of prep school or their day jobs aa airline hostesses. FFS, the USA look like the boring prelude to the Paris team. Whoever designed their costumes fucked up massively - no flair or intrigue whatsoever.

I'll say it again - I want Guam's shirts.

Leave it to braindead Jap athletes to chase trends without giving any thought on it whatsoever

Since when did taxpayer money go to CNN?
I meant the fucking games themselves. I just hate CNN for saying NBC shouldn't mind if the Olympics are tanking since their funding to the IOC and bullshit broadcasts schedule is part of the reason why this shitfest is happening here

Last week I didn't hate Japan. It's amazing how quickly someone can piss away all the goodwill they've spent years building up.

That place is based as hell.

How effing ridiculous. It’s obvious the women’s photos were taken like a passport photo. Then there’s the he-beast’s pic-bright lighting and photoshopped within an inch of his pathetic life.

Kneeling or other forms of political messaging is theoretically against IOC rules. But let's see if there's any follow-through on that.

Didn't the IOC make changes to the rule so that players may issue political messaging during the games unless they're on the podium or something?

Don't hate our people and culture. Hate our government, athletes, and other celebs who think they're better than everyone.
