Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

I really wonder what goes through the minds of most at the White House or DNC leadership when they see Biden only getting 500 people to a rally, while Trump has people waiting 12+ hours and are stretched out for over several city blocks to get into his rally.

Silicon? It's the second most abundant element on the planet. There are silicon ingot and wafer manufacturers on every continent. China wouldn't have a hope of controlling that market.

If you're talking about rare earths, they're also abundant, just difficult to refine. China currently has a lock-in on that market, but there are relatively accessible deposits of the most demanded rare earths in Australia, North America and all over Europe. You can bet, if china were to put serious pressure on the market, people will start extracting them post haste. In fact we've been through this game once already: china tried to restrict rare earth supplies, pushing the price up significantly, which made re-opening mines and processing facilities in the US a viable proposition. The moment those mines looked like they were going to open, China immediately capitulated.
