The article sounds like they reached out to Wayne Beckett, likely inspired by this thread, and he provided the pics and threw in his two cents on how awful we are.
 
This place didn't do anything anyone is saying except have a shitty thread that was half-derailed and welcoming of Byuu's participation. It's dumb to say that kiwis harassed Dave and his associates yet no one posted anything about it in the thread, which means they're just being dicks and not expecting any lolz from it.

Word to the wise autistic devs, try not buddying up with literal pedos, furries, and trannies (not mutually exclusive) and making that your online identity if you're afraid of someone capturing that moment in your online life and laughing at it.

Would it be totally autistic to reach out to the author of the article and ask if she actually got proof of death or she is just relying on the word of two internet trolls?

Not sure if it counts as pozloading my negholep too much but if it's just for simple clarification it doesn't hurt to ask. Just butter them up and word it very nicely so it's not another "Kiwifarms have DM'd me and my entire family died" moment.

I just find it annoying how all of these articles and publications are conveniently leaving out the part where byuu tried to bribe null into deleting the 13 page thread, and how all the "harrassment" was after their death, not before it, therefore cant be the cause. Even if they say it was, it just isnt because none of this mean stuff about them was said while they were alive.

Unless, of course, byuu is still alive and affected by what is being said about them.

Some reporting... No reaching out to family, next of kin, exes.... nor even claims of "declined to comment" or "didn't respond". Just the word of one rando who supposedly hired this furry, and had two pics of him in a cat cafe with no context from 4 years ago.

The best confirmation we're probably going to get is the U.S. State Department's list of U.S. citizens who died abroad. You can search it by country and date range and it will return a list of the dates, places, and causes of all U.S. citizens' deaths. For example, here's what the report looks like for all deaths in Japan in the first half of 2020:

Judging by the historical "last updated" dates on that page, that list is updated twice a year - once in late February/early March with all of the deaths through December of the previous year, and once in late August/early September with all the deaths through June of that year. If Byuu actually an hero'ed, he should show up in the list when it's updated in about five weeks.
 
My spouse saw the USA Today article and told me about it because I'd been gossiping to them a bit about Byuu. So I wandered back to point out a few things:

Isn't the 'employer' mentioned in the article the guy that Byuu said was merely planning to hire him in the emails to Null? How did we go from 'hiring' to 'hired' over the course of Byuu committing suicide?

The article doesn't keep its story very straight and goes from the Kiwi Farms bullying Near/Byuu to death but also says that what upset Near/Byuu the most was one of their friends being targeted. Apparently the thread caused him Schrodinger's angst, because it both gets blamed and absolved in the same freaking article.

I agree that if he's dead we'll see it on the gov statistics, but I personally think he scarpered off to China. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that getting a new, 'Chinese' name is part of the process of moving over there. They've got some whole sub language devoted to picking names for foreigners. Plus Byuu himself said he was learning Cantonese and gave the impression he wanted to move.

Would there be any publicly available stats if he migrated to China?
