The discrepancy is simple. Americans love a Black v. White situation. It's why so much of our history is washed down and pathetic. We cover WWII in depth but not so much the WWI and the specific conditions that led to the war.

Similarly, the Civil War gets the same treatment up until recently. Lincoln did not fight to free the slaves, he only prohibited slavery in the South, rather he fought to preserve the Union.

Back to Trevor Noah, in this situation he cannot label one party with a convenient buzzword (Alt-right, NAZI, White Supremacist) so he want to ignore the actual issue. In addressing this issue he might need to have a nuanced position something progressives tend not to be able to do very well.

What is especially sad is is that he had no love for the Afrikaans-centric Apartheid era South Africa as a recent British immigrant descendant person. Even before black-rule he was second-class. Then during black-rule he was blamed for all of the countries problems, but he had gotten none of the benefits of the previous regime.
