I've followed many lolcow threads and forums from time to time and yeah, it's pretty obvious it's just really all about gossip and drama... a past time as old as newsgroups.

As for who I am. Around 2003 I started a guitar pedal company called Effector 13. I designed and hand built effects that were noisy / unruly and was a part of the 2nd wave of "boutique" guitar pedal manufactures.

Over the next 10 years I worked hard to build my brand, eventually changing the name to Devi Ever : FX and have had the honor of providing fuzz and noise devices to everyone from Depeche Mode to Nine Inch Nails.

You can actually see one of my pedals, the Improbability Drive in the album Ghosts :

In late 2013 I sold my business to another company and then spent most of 2014 losing my fucking mind in the indie gaming scene, forest gumping my way through a shit ton of bullshit and drama, and now here I am getting back into making guitar pedals but still pursuing my passion of game development.

I'm confused as to the context of this question?

I absolutely have had an issue in the past where I would antagonize people for the rush of whatever that is.

There's plenty of things I have done in the past that were for the thrill of the moment, of getting a rise out of people, but that's like junk food... a temporary high that doesn't really fix the greater problems I had been dealing with.

Like I mentioned earlier, I have not been well the past year, and I mean, even before that I definitely had long term problems with attention seeking behavior online... antagonizing people to get a rise and then enjoying whatever little buzz comes along with that.

I used to kinda justify my behavior by only targeting people I thought deserved to be fucked with, but holy shit, after my year being around SJW trolls, I realize how destructive and awful that kind of thing is.

Thanks friend. Places like Kiwi Farms, or any other lolcow forum / sites are weird, because on one hand, ya'll's obsession seems kinda on par with it's own brand of mental illness that should probably be looked after, but on the other hand, there are definitely some people you target who need help themselves, and does pointing that out really benefit anyone?

I feel like that quote from the Jacob's Ladder is really fitting here.

Louis: Eckhart saw Hell too. He said: The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, he said. They're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and... and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth.

Oh, and you can hear my fuzz the Bit : Legend of Fuzz on the rhythm guitar here (the first guitar sound) :

Fair enough.

I'm not sure what this thread is for.

It's about whatever you want it to be, friend. Dream big!

Here's a video of my kitty TJ givin' me a kiss while Kissed by a Rose plays in the background.

Anything is possible if you want it to be!

I remember a long time ago you set up a Kickstarter or something because you got in deep shit with the IRS, and instead of using your donated money to pay your debt you just gave all the cash to FemFreq and didn't tell anyone until a few days after. What was the deal with that?

Also why do you change your online name so much?

I'm glad to see that you are a pretty reasonable person and saw through the lies of the Tumblr brand of social justice. Though you aren't completely blameless in all of that. Regardless, I wish you luck in whatever you do.

What would you recommend for a person starting game developing, since you are that person right now?

Already explained the first part earlier in the thread.

I changed my name to Grace / Amber because I was running from my past and I wasn't in a healthy place.

I'm back to plain ol' Devi Ever because I'm back to gettin' gud.

We're all guilty of somethin'

I highly recommend Construct 2 if you are into 2D stuff. Absolutely anyone can make games using it's incredibly powerful if you are willing to work hard to figure out the little nuances of the platform.

Definitely the easiest to use of Unity / GameMaker imho.

I'm kind of fiddling around with a game myself, I was just wondering what you do when you get burnt out on the project you're doing. What gets you back into it? I tried avoiding the thing altogether to wait and get my inspiration back, but then several months went by and I still didn't have the same drive I started out with.

Every game developer I really respect didn't really start hitting their stride until about 10 years in. This goes hand in hand with my experience in the guitar pedal biz.

The idea that you should be accomplishing anything in particular in the first few years I think is probably a really bad state of mind to be in as you are just getting your footing and it'll be a long while until you really get the hang of everything. Just my humble opinion and based on my own experiences of course.

I'd suggest treating the first few years of game development as you might if you were beginning to learn to become an illustrator. Sketching is a HUGE part of becoming a better artist, and I think things like game jams, and projects that you start but never follow through with are the gamedev's version of a sketch book.

Ask any notable developer and they'll tell you about the countless projects they never finished.

To be more concise, I'd say my best advice is to leave it alone and move forward with whatever else you are inspired by. Eventually you'll gain the knowledge / confidence / focus to follow through and finish a project.

@Devi Ever please make pedals again, you made such cool shit. I fell in love with every fuzzbox of yours that I ever used.

Speaking of the game, it's called Mordyd's Chosen, has a very interesting cast and pretty trippy, from what I have seen of what Wheat has done. When she gets into regular updates of course do it you lazy ass, you need to stick up to brianna and to do that you gotta be known dammit. If you are interested, you can ask her for her deviantART and tumblr to know more of the universe she cooked up

just doing free shilling dudes, carry on

So what's your opinion on ethics in journalism?

Honestly, I was surprised how much I trusted liberal media before gamergate.

Seeing them absolutely do shit for research on the subject and how many people who worked for notable publications completely not give a fuck for the truth was very shocking to me.

This past year was all about me learning that not all people who claim to fight for good are good people.

I mean, I know that sounds kinda obvious, but like, I guess I felt like I never had a reason to disbelieve those who had a "moral" narrative outside of religion / politics, but now I know better.

Have you made any life-long enemies on either side because of it and if so, are they funny enough for a thread?

WAIT WHAT

i'll admit i posted before read the whole thread. i assumed i was late to the party. but now i've read it over, and what the fuck. nobody in goddamn 5 pages asks where the 41000 dollars went? nobody? everyone talks a big game but the second someone throws a couple easy targets under the bus, you go barbra walters in the most soft-focus bullshit way possible.

fuck this stupid bullshit about indie games and pedals, i want to know what you did with 41k. go ahead rate me autistic, but that's literally the only interesting question out there. so fuck whoever deleted the only legitimate ask as "shitposting", i'll take that anyday over hearing some person's life story.

"gawsh, it's like this guy thinks actions in the past have ramifications in the present! what a sperg!"

Many, lol.

I was actually on DMing terms with Zoe Quinn the moment the Zoe Post dropped.

tbh, I probably have the most balanced, both-sides perspective on gamergate as I'm one of the only people who was on private speaking terms from notable people on both sides of the conflict

Nothing though that's really lolcow worthy. More like war stories only really interesting to people who care about the minutia of the history of gamergate and feminism in indie gaming last year.

Pretty sure I answered this already... maybe it was in the other thread...

Oh, it was in the other thread : https://kiwifarms.net/threads/8-28-2015-im-not-a-crook-emailgate.12101/page-8#post-936763

Actually we finished the entire design! It's ready for manufacturing and the design info was released to the public. I just mismanaged the remaining money because, yeah, I got facial surgery the year before and finally being accepted as a woman was definitely doing my head in. :/

I still might end up building the Console (I have other interested manufacturers) but I gotta get back on my feet first.

The funny thing about my failed kickstarter is that I spent half the money on the design, so it wasn't like I took the money and ran. Also I'm paying everyone back (already paid back about half of what I owe) , so I'm pretty much out all the KS money + the money I spent on completing the design, but no one really cares for the truth when it comes to the dramaz. :/

Sorry to derail.
