Started reading Dungeon Meshi from a recommendation of a guy I used to play DnD with and it's pretty alright although I did get a little whiplash in the first chapter with the characters almost being whipped out by a dragon (and one being outright eaten) to suddenly start cooking monster bits.
Aside from that it's pretty funny but most most of the jokes seem to revolve around this over and over so I'm a bit worried it'll get a bit stale.

I'm gonna give another dozen or so chapters and decide if its worth reading.

Dungeon Meshi is fantastic, one of my favorite mangas around. The cooking is more of a charm point, so I definitely wouldn't worry about it getting stale. I'd also recommend checking out the author's anthologies as well.

Pre-ordered the Slayers hardcover novel coming this week.

I have all the Slayers series on DVD. I highly doubt we'd be getting a bluray remaster of the show.

I watched the first two episodes first... but then I thought about the ones with big titty Naga. Apparently I should watch the OVA/Films first and then the 5 seasons? I watched the first film. It was...SLIGHTLY confusing but watchable.

I read somewhere that her adventures with Naga happen before she meets Goury.
 
I watched everything in release order back when I watched through Slayers. You need to watch at least one movie before the second season to get the running gag of Amelia rubber-necking anytime she sees someone who looks like Naga.

Jesus, last few months every sunday was binging 5 shows that came over the weekend. Now the only thing worth looking into is Shadow House.
 
Just finished watching golden kamuy and I gotta say it's pretty great I love the mix of realistic historical fights and jap/ainu culture with the weird humor and sometimes ridiculous animation

The story is pretty simple at first and then gets deeper and more complex with each new villain and Ally introduced which it's hard to say that since no one is truly an enemy or ally the groups are constantly betraying eachother and uniting

I also like how they kill off important people to reinforce the point that no one is safe in war but don't over do it like GOT or AOT

Definitely gonna start reading the manga and I would 100% recommend it if you want a good relaxation anime to watch without it being gay and repetitive

Sort of exists as a manga. Elf-san wa Yaserarenai (Miss Elf Can't Lose Weight) is about an elf (and other fantasy girls) that got isekai'd to Japan via a portal and are having difficulty adjusting to Japanese life and gaining weight. Main character is a male fitness coach who helps them with their weight problems. So basically same thing, only for feeders like Josh.

It's definitely great since it has something for everyone. Want cool fights? Has it. Want historical drama? Has it. Want a Western but Japanese? Has it. Want lolis? Has it. Want comedy? Has it. Want to see interesting cultural shit? Has it. Want food porn? Has it. Want fujoshit? Has it. It covers so many bases and I absolutely love it.

The spider parts are good, but it can be a dizzying mess and the second half has some quality issues. I might check out the ln, myself at one point to see if they skipped interesting stuff.

Golden Kamuy translations have neat notes at the end up chapters that help recognize all the historical notes and references, definitely worth reading it imo.

I generally agree with the notion that very busy work schedules dilutes creativity. You need to absorb experiences, stories and thoughts to produce good art. There is an overall trend of decline in long running manga/anime, where the author eventually, due to the required weekly output, produces story lines of lesser quality in comparison to earlier efforts. Naruto and Bleach are good examples. Both were exuding creative energy early on, especially in the art work, and settled for a more restrained and "mature" style in the last few arcs.

You can't be inspired 24/7, and working on a single piece of work for a long time will not help it much.
