True. Darkest Dungeon is an example on what you are saying, where mods and support is solely exclusive to Steam.

Now I will counteract your argument by saying there are sites where you can download mods from Steam by only putting the URL code of the mod and the site grabs the link and convert it to zip so you can manually install it.

Piracy requires more steps and more attention. That's why Steam streamlines a lot of things so that lazy users believe is better to fork up cash for unfinished games and then defend it when someone like me points out the holes in the whole system.
 
Stealing is always better than paying for things because then you have the thing and also your money.

I'm not stealing per the definition of the word. I'm not hurting devs or the media industry by me pirating it something. It is complicated but reat assured your precious devs gain more from piracy than without.

And I do it because a) I can and b) I want to.

In the case of Factorio I never had any incling to play it before because I thought it was autistic as hell and I downloaded it to see if I was right, and yeah is autistic as hell.

It's beautiful. So far my biggest builds all just seem to work by some kind of technomancy because I can't even follow my own design path. They're like that SCP-914. They work, somehow, but taking away a single machine breaks everything and following the flow of operation impossible.

Because the devs get pay either way for their work. The only ones who suffer from piracy are the distributors or publishing companies.

In the case of Steam, most Frontpage games are sourced by someone outside the dev team who pay them and they get the revenue from the sales along with Steam.

I'm in a similar boat with ubisoft games. I buy used copies if I wanna try one of their titles. Those shitbrained surrender monkeys will never get a penny out of me

I like well-organized builds with a lot of empty space in-between the factory sections (mostly because I just like using rails), but I can appreciate a good eldritch spaghetti. And it's always funny to ask someone how they built something and watching them doing the equivalent of shrugging and going "Iunno".

Because those games usually take between 6 months and a year to complete and release. People who WORK in those games need to get payed at least something in those months. That's where publishing houses come, they PAY THE DEV team to complete the games and then THE PUBLISHING HOUSE gets the rights from the sales of said games. Maybe they cut in some of the porcentage to Devs but very unlikely.
