I think you are looking in the wrong direction here because the loudest and most blatant narcissism in the trans movement comes from the AGPs who aren't autistic (that is, there are AGPs who are also autistic, but they are not leading the pack and setting the trends and getting all the attention) and the autists who get drawn in are just aping that behavior because it's acceptable and they never get pushback. That is not to say that non-AGP online trans spaces don't encourage narc behaviour as well, but that is just what happens in social groups with no accountability, whether they are full of autistic people or not.

About a decade ago I knew a talented intelligent guy who was neither autistic nor retarded. Seriously, he was a thoughtful guy and not a total mongoloid.
Anyway a mutual acquaintance of ours (FTM) trooned out. He asked her, no shit, if she would start seeing actual physical changes now that she'd simply decided she was a man. I don't think he really thought his question through, but on some level he was asking if she'd unlocked some magic trans-activation I guess. He definitely was not talking about binding or testosterone or haircuts, he was talking about like... spontaneous morphing action being unlocked through sheer willpower.

You could say this goes to show he was a dipshit, but I think it only proves how ignorant the average normie is regarding this stuff and how little they even consider it. A lot of people think troons really and truly are sad oppressed struggling people who are the opposite sex in every way except they are cursed with genitals they don't like. And that they sincerely are just poor things trying really hard and need encouragement, and aren't depraved sex perverts or mentally ill scolds who will never ever be satisfied. And that "the surgeries" are all really good and successful and you can't tell the difference.

It’s always been the dark ages. Some times I’ll hear one of my older friends go on (and on and on...) about how classic rock was way better than the garbage we have now. But they are only hearing the classics after all these years, the stinkers don’t get played. I think it’s easy to look at people as uniquely dumb in contemporary times, but we are only reading the geniuses and visionaries of the past. We are not reading the morons. I mean, even if they would wind up creating a moronic ideology, followed by most morons, and taught by a bunch of fake-credential morons, usually they were still way more smart and charismatic than the average person.

Right now with the troon stuff you are seeing the average adherents of a moron ideology in real time. Humans are uniquely capable of stupidity, there is no bottom, and the more Sophisticated a person is, the deeper they can rationalize into a stupid line of reasoning. Some times people erroneously see history as a straight line of eternal progression towards the present times, instead of a bunch of trial and error that often wind up doing more harm than good. (Radioactive paint, leaded gasoline, brutalist architecture, screwdriver lobotomies, etc...) just like classic rock, there is a survivorship bias towards what worked. I feel you on being a doomer about this, but you can take some hope in reality always winning out in the end. Some things just aren’t conducive to a civilization.

In this is also the fixation on rules and on the 'right' ordering of things that some autists suffer from. Many autists believe rules are inviolable, or deal very poorly with people not following the rules as they imagine them to be. I think it's ultimately a problem with understanding intent that stems from core autistic deficits in mind-reading combined with a need to avoid uncertainty due to high levels of anxiety. It's classic advice for dealing with autistic children, to set explicit rules and to not break them, because the child won't understand that rules are often are really just strong suggestions and not axioms of the universe.

Very easy to see how this could contribute to producing some of the behaviors we observe in troons.

I disagree as while there is an element of truth to this in that the top rank troons are comparatively non-autistic (also worth noting that many prominent troons are FtMs, e.g. Katie "Chase" Strangio), and in that sense I think you're right. And the most awful and obnoxious individual troons are probably not very autistic (e.g. 'Andrea' James -- though we can't be certain about this, he's so odious that I half suspect he is actually a massive sperg; simply hard to be such an awful person without there being something concretely 'wrong' with you.)

I think the truth is that these individuals don't matter as much as the collective output of internet subcultures -- troonism is an incredibly online phenomenon, which are often dominated by relatively more autistic troons, Hence, the ideas that precipitate out of these subcultures inform and legitimate the approaches taken by more prominent figures. You can thus draw a line between particular cognitive styles and arguments, demands & claims by more prominent figures who don't necessarily share in them. Indeed prominent figures can acknowledge that most of the slogans/ideas etc. are more or less stupid if taken literally, or even seriously, but still repeat or defend them simply for instrumental reasons. Joe Lavery is probably the best example of someone who does this.

Worth noting that his mother has ADHD which is more significant than if the kid's father had it, as ADHD in women generally indicates greater underlying neurological abnormality, which in turn suggests a stronger genetic predisposition towards neuro-developmental disorders.

The "verbally fluent" quip made me think hyperlexia and the odd pronoun usage suggests possible issues with actually understanding language. The remark about her son telling stories in 3rd person is particularly noteworthy, since using 2nd/3rd person pronouns where 1st person would be more appropriate is a common autism sign in young children.
