They were responding to the One dead, several injured after shooting near Juneteenth event in Oakland reported Sunday.

Multiple women were seen twerking on the top of an ambulance in Lake Merritt in Oakland, California on Saturday night, as paramedics attempted to make their way through to the scene of a shooting in which one person was killed and at least seven others were wounded.

The ambulance was stopped in its tracks by the crowd which was said to be around 1,000-strong as people gathered to celebrate Juneteenth after it was declared a federal holiday.

As the ambulance arrived at the scene, the revelers continued to party, with no apparent regard for the seriousness of the situation that just occurred nearby.



When the ambulance could go no further, at least five women began twerking at the side while another pair jumped on the hood of the emergency vehicle.

At least one person was also spotted on top of the roof at one point.

Video footage of the incident has gone viral on Twitter, showing Juneteenth partiers not only ignoring the Oakland shooting, but using the ambulance as a vehicle for them to use for their own enjoyment.

Police were on the scene to monitor the situation, they announced on Facebook, when shots rang out at 6:22 p.m.



Six male victims ranging in age from 16 to 27 and one 21-year-old female suffered gunshot wounds, and a 22-year-old San Francisco resident died.

'Immediately after the shooting, Oakland Police Officers observed two men running from the scene with firearms,' the police department announced on Sunday. 'Both men have been arrested and two firearms recovered.'

Police said it remains unclear whether the two individuals are connected to the shooting, and the Oakland Police Department is now offering up to $40,000 for any information about the mass shooting.

Investigators said they were trying to determine a motive for the shooting and identify suspects, but believe it has links to gang activity in neighboring San Francisco.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6:30pm about a mile north of the Lake Merritt Amphitheater, where hundreds of people had gathered throughout the day to commemorate June 19, 1865.

That was the date when Union soldiers brought the news of freedom to enslaved black people in Galveston, Texas, two months after the Confederacy had surrendered.

Andrew Simpson was jogging near the lake when he heard gunshots.

'Out of the corner of my eye I saw a guy with a gun pointing at a car. Everyone started sprinting and screaming,' Simpson told the Bay Area News Group.

Witnesses said some people ran into the water when shots rang out.

'Tonight a joyous occasion at our Lake Merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence,' said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf in a statement.

It wasn't immediately known whether there was any connection between the shooting and the Juneteenth events.

The footage appeared on Tucker Carlson's Fox News program on Monday night who vented his fury at what he had witnessed.

'What kind of society produces people like that who would behave like that? Do you know anybody who would behave like that? When you have people behave like that you have to ask yourself what are we as a society doing wrong?' Carlson pondered.

'Anybody who celebrates a shooting is not somebody you want to share a country with,' he added.

I remember very chill and pretty fun street fairs as a teen. Although admittedly that was in San Jose which has long been less insane than Oakland. It probably helps that San Jose has way more Mexicans and way fewer black people.

That wasn't your original argument, but this one is still nebulous.

You assume that the talent of a community existed in a distinct group rather than being spread about throughout the communities in both active talent and potential. I would agree that even before the dilapidation of black communities, there was a departure of more talented/resource-bearing blacks from said communities in the wake of desegregation/forced integration, but there is nothing that can be assumed lacking by their departure that provided the "constraints" you mention-- that's mealy-mouthed nonsense. This "talented tenth" largely wasn't governing or otherwise leading these communities, so they weren't in a position to provide any such thing.

Did they provide constraints that, say, kept crime down, or constraints that kept down the illegitimacy rate? If so, what were they and how did they impose them?

Instead, I wager that the "moral standards" were in fact the first line of "constraints" to begin with, which means that "something" distorted their culture, which only further incentivized the fleeing of talent and resources. I argue that it was expanding the welfare state (combined with more lax attitudes about sex), because as done, it disincentivized whole homes (you could make more money from welfare without being married, but you may not even qualify if you are) and removed some of the risk of behaviors that lead to birth out-of-wedlock (which caused a concurrent issue of children not being raised well enough by both their parents, a phenomenon that self-perpetuated over generations and led to kids being swallowed up by criminal elements).

This also meant that the community ties forged by the reciprocal obligations inherent to a society where men work to feed themselves and the families they may have ceased to exist in great measure, to be replaced by the mostly apathetic but unilateral subsidy of the government.

There's value in work, even if you're still poor: you learn intangible skills (e.g. diligence, discipline, obedience, critical thinking) that may shape you into a proper or even exemplary member of society before they start paying off in whatever social mobility you have access to. Naturally, there would be consequences if you made it so that one could 1) be sustained without much-- if any-- work, and 2) disincentivize upwards social mobility by creating no sufficient transitional zone for those who are trying to get off welfare.

When I was a young woman I used to go to Festival At The Lake where everyone came out and had fun but then there were too many jogger-related shootings and they ended it.

So much fun when we were younger, always ran into friends, just a good time for everyone.

I used to volunteer for a settlement house on the Lower East Side. They offered after school and summer programs and tutoring. We had a good group of kids who showed up regularly, but a lot of kids never stopped in except to say hello to their friends before going off to do God knows what.

More summer camps are great for kids whose parents have it together enough to take an active role in their kids' lives. Involved parents are the most important barrier to kids getting into dumb shit, and things like summer camps and after school activities help those parents keep their kids out of trouble. But if the parents are out to lunch? Those programs will do jack shit.

Also, there are already a fuckload of programs out there. If black kids aren't using them, that's a choice they and their parents are making. Unless Biden proposes sending those kids to summer camp by force, more money isn't likely to change anything.

So, uhh...generally emergency vehicle operators trigger the lights and sirens on when they have an urgent call to take care of. Does it matter if the ambulance was dispatched to a shooting, or someone having a stroke, or someone who slipped on a banana peel and busted their skull on the ground?

Not really, usually it means "urgent business get out of the fucking way or someone might die" and it's a universally understood custom in most civilized places.

This video perfectly sums up the current state of affairs we're dealing with. The average decent person, when they see lights in their rear-view mirror and hear sirens, might think: "God damn it I'm going to be late."
But they'll still pull the fuck over to let the ambulance through. Because they're civilized. Because they might consider: "What if it were I or one of my relatives that needed an ambulance, and traffic/crowds of twerking negros kept it from arriving in a timely manner?" They pull over because they understand that a couple minutes at most tacked onto their trip doesn't compare to the situation for the poor bastard needing/being transported by the ambulance.

Now, these people on the other hand, see an ambulance with lights and sirens on and they view it as an opportunity to end up on World Star. They don't even have enough in-group preference to consider that maybe another black person needed a fucking ambulance, which is pretty likely given where they're at. My school was great. K-12 rural school. But it was in America. So there.

It has to do with how well districts handle their malcontents and where the rest of the students are placed in proximity of them. If they isolate and handle them it's better for everyone else and experiences are better overall. This runs afoul of the policy of "mainstreaming" so it doesn't happen much.

Another solution that is politically untenable is removing the truancy laws so that only the kids who want to learn go to school. If the little shits don't want to be there, let 'em leave. Fuck 'em.
