Could be. It could be connected to them playing to many videogames, watching too much anime, etc etc as kids.

Because when you act out a fantasy in reality, you get smacked back hard. Like saying you can fly, then you jump from a playset and bruise your ankle. Or claim you're a superhero but don't have the strength to lift a big rock. You're forced to face reality as you're growing up, in your formative years.

With stuff like videogames it doesn't happen. You get accustomed to a fantasy world.

I don't think it's the main driving force, but it's certainly an interesting take on it
