Hmmm, yeah I can see how that kink's spread would be inherently self limiting to some degree. At least the extreme forms where it takes over someone's entire online identity. Social media, for furries especially, is a place where everyone stives to create a unique (or unique seeming) persona, and build followers and clout based on that recognition of their uniqueness. There's some nuance to it in their supposedly helpless attraction to being turned into a drone meant to stir up their followers, but it's all coomer shit with doubled post-nut regret sinking in after the honeymoon because it costs them friends and long-term attention.
The original art that I'm not going to look up because I don't want to depicted the helmets more as globes with built-in goggles, but they're using gas masks that look similar because breathing is for chumps.

Even if they’re able to pass, these AGP guys must realize at some point that they’re not being treated any better than they were before. They try to say it’s because they’re being clocked and transphobia is preventing them from reaping the glorious extra privileges of womanhood, but they’re really just discovering the truth: nobody goes out of their way to be nice to ugly, middle-aged or plain women. Only very, very attractive young women get special attention, and then only from straight men who are trying to get in their pants.

There are and have been massive pushes to make programming and any other activity/job/etc that tends to attract socially inept or reclusive people into troonzones. Probably because such people are more susceptible to lovebombing and also maybe because it is easier to make people submit to you if you have friends that write the code every mainstream whatever uses and can ban whomever they please.
