By the way, does anybody remember that a few months ago the NSA or some other government organization came out and said that all those weird UFO videos were real and that they didn't know from where the fuck they came from? I remember that one video where 2 pilots are following that weird thing and as soon as they came close to it the thing flew out of their sight and radars in like a second, pretty spooky.

The average joe doesn't know half this stuff is going on, they've mostly tuned out because they "don't need" to look at the news anymore. The only way they pay attention is if something hits their wallet like when the gas shortage hit hard, that's when I noticed people were starting to get upset quick at Biden in general.
There's been a few more statements from officials on that, including one military official saying if there is aliens, humanity would be driven extinct if anyone contacted them.

If only, but I'll jump to the defense of the Catholics, the Inquisition never burned anyone at the stake. Technically, they never executed anyone, that was up to the state to hand out punishments. Us Prots, on the other hand, did burn people at the stake. John Calvin was a particular fan of it if you disagreed with him.
Now maybe torture him until he admits to heresy and repents the Inquisition can do for you. I think we've all gotten over that whole burning at the stake thing.

Being relatively ecumenical in my view of the major branches getting along, only if we stop arguing over how many angels dance on the heads of pins and whether or not we love Mary too much or not enough long enough to put the actual heretics to the torch. We can go back to fighting over these things once the "God (They/Them) is Trans" types are gone.

Well if they are aliens who have a FTL travel method then there's nothing stopping them from exterminating us, maybe they see us the same way we see uncontacted tribes from the Amazon, seeing them from a distance but never interact with them.
IIRC the Inca Emperor was burned at the stake after being converted by the Spanish conquistadores, although the Church condemned it, and technicaly the conquistadores weren't part of the Spanish Kingdom,but you are right, this was mostly a Protestant thing.

The fact that no forces have opened fire on them in recent history tells me its probably US or US-Ally stuff.
When it comes to threat assessment, Aliens is pretty much a non-starter. Not just for the whole "Aliens don't exist" bit, but more that, if there is a technological force that can achieve the level of technology to come to earth in force and fuck shit up, the goose is already cooked. Whereas intercepting one gives the potential of capturing some tech. Its a one in a billion longshot, but better that than nothing. Remember, if they have the capacity to invade the planet brought with them, over such long distances, they probably came to do exactly that. So triggering some sort of retaliation just shows they brought military force with intent.
If its a near-peer threat with more advanced technology than we expected, shoot it down and secure the technology. Whoever it is, they'd have a hard time really doing anything about the situation, as long as the encounter was in either the exclusion zone of the navy, or in/over US territorial airspace. And since most evidence would indicate that for humans, these have to be some sort of drone craft, there's not blood on hands. Anyone stepping up and saying "Hey the US shot down our Super Advanced stuff" is going to have a lot of explaining to do on the global stage.
And if its a US asset, then orders from sufficiently high up will be "Don't touch it". They don't need to know why, and simple orders to ghost mysterious contacts and observe would be fine. Why they are just flying out in the middle of random places with US presence? No idea, could be some effort to test 'real world' effectiveness, especially if the real trick is some sort of detection confusion and countermeasure systems.
I do secretly hope that Dementia Joe slips up on stage and just says "We can't fight China, we're too busy with the Aliens!" one day.

In Biden's defense, he's been in politics for fifty years and now, for some bizarre reason, the bishops decide to do something. It would be amazing since the Catholic Church just kind of rolled over and is waiting for death to come. If it actually fought for something then people may actually respect it again.

It happened, but the Inquisition actually cleared most of the people they brought in, usually after correcting the doctrinal issue. The Kingdoms, on the other hand, sometimes executed them anyways.
