Let's pretend for one moment that he does die before the election, just for the funsies. What happens then? Will the nomination revert to option number 2, aka Bernie Sanders? Or will his running mate automatically replace him just the way Vice-President is supposted to step in after the Big Man in the White House chokes on a piece of matzo? Does he even have a running mate yet?

He kinda does though. Foreign diplomacy hinges on how well foreign actors can trust that the president is likely to keep his word. Already the foreign diplomacy is out the gate with one leg hobbled by the fact the election is under such a shroud of doubt as to its legitimacy. Now, foreign leaders see he can't even function, his word is increasingly in doubt.

This is something his handlers can't do themselves, either. Because any deal THEY make has no official power unless Joe upholds it since the next person to get the office can and will throw out anything not officially agreed on. So he's potentially illegitimate AND unable to assure his word, making anything he signs off on only good for wiping your ass.

I looked it up just to ensure it wasn't bullshit and got this.
Another official told Reuters that China was against the 15% agreed by the G7 and winning carve-outs would be its condition for getting behind the rate.


So far, other G20 emerging market countries are rallying behind the G7 with the finance ministers of South Africa, Mexico and Indonesia backing the deal in a Washington Post op-ed.

"I'm confident that at the end we will also reach a deal with China. Because, as always in such international negotiations, it will be a give and take," one negotiator said.

So it hasn't happened yet but it almost certainly will.

All of these global "agreements" really seem like the sort of thing that would require a treaty. They're not going that route because it would probably be debated to death. Oh, and also because it would require 66 votes in the Senate, which the Democrats can't even dream of. These new global taxes are a transparent attempt to handicap and eventually cripple economies in the West who compete with China. It will be interesting to see just how they try to implement this, and what other countries are going to be exempted or, more importantly, are going to decide not to comply.

Like you said, it's going to be focused on developed western nations. Everyone else will be exempt or tell them to eat shit. Same with climate pacts that exempt China and India while Americans pay the bill.

One thing I think a lot of the people on the left seemed to not understand is Trump and his base really disliked the idea of America signing agreements that clearly fucked us over.

We are America, why should we be signing some piece of paper saying you get special privileges while we pay extra.

My sister has a few Funko Pops and they're actually made in Vietnam, not China. Fun fact. Same with a lot of clothing these days. A lot of things seem to be moving out of China.

I don't know what they can do to help. Most of what they can do is simply watch, and potentially laugh. Think about it, after so many years of being the country that created something truly evil, and people constantly asking "how could you guys let this happen?", they can now point at the US and say "this is how. Sucks, don't it?"
