I'm not referring to subscription-based sites, I'm talking about free tube-sites that host user generated content. I would imagine that server cost would be too expensive to only rely on ad revenue. Do people even click on the ads? I would think most use ad-blocker.

So, as far as I understand the producers get money from ads and products (magazines, dvd sales, subscriptions, events, other sites, articles, etc.) and the girls see their share by doing work and going to events.

Are DVDs really selling anymore?

There's like 3 big sites competing for the clicks of like 2 BILLION people every damn day. That quarter of a penny they get per ad view (not click) adds up quickly.
Sure, there's a bunch of smaller sites out there but they're either niche (and therefore have a loyal fan base) or primarily make money by hosting malware.

Typically porn sites make money on user metrics, meaning the demographics of your viewing habits. So not only category, duration of time viewed, browser analytics, and other important metrics involved in marketing. So the root of the issue isn't typically with clicking advertisements, rather the metrics that are also collected from you actually visiting their site. This is just like how companies on big tech make the majority of the bankroll too, and they typically outsource it to whoever they please.

In more malicious of manners, not in regards of the actual porn sites themselves. Malware, which has actually been a massive problem in the XXX hub, since the dawn of the internet. Most of the time, these websites are the easiest to target, because the amount of traffic they usually receive. The advertisements that are usually supplied by third party promoters are the most laden with this type of issues. Usually supplies your device with an unpleasant array of nasty things that end up compromising your machine, to do whatever they desire with your data.

Have you noticed that Pornhub has really cut down on the amount of full length content? I think Porn Purge was an excuse to do what they planned long ago which would be to make the library smaller and so desperate coomers will just spend the money for Dogfart and Max Hardcore.

Ads, some of them also do webcams where they would get a cut of the money from simps, also premium membership and finally many of them do merchandise but I'm not sure why anyone would want a t shirt with pornhub on it.
