Demi Lovato is calling on people to stop complimenting
weight loss
because it can be damaging for those who struggle with disordered eating.

Personally, Lovato said, every day they fight to remember they're more than their body, which is hard to do when they receive compliments about looking slimmer.

"Idk who needs to hear this but complimenting someone on their weight loss can be as harmful as complimenting someone on their weight gain in regards to talking to someone in recovery from an eating disorder," the singer wrote on their Instagram story on May 23.

Lovato, who recently said they were non-binary and use they/them pronouns, continued: "If you don't know someone's history with food, please don't comment on their body. Because even if your intention is pure, it might leave that person awake at 2am overthinking that statement."

Lovato, 28, said that sometimes it can feel great to receive those comments, but "only to the loud ass eating disorder voice inside my head" telling them they're more likable when thinner and should eat less to lose more weight.

Receiving compliments for losing weight can leave you wondering what people thought of your body before, Lovato said.

"Moral of the story: I am more than the shell for my soul that is my body and everyday I fight to remind myself of that, so I'm asking you to please not remind me that that is all people see of me sometimes," they wrote.

Lovato has been outspoken about their past experience with eating disorders and earlier this year got into a feud with a frozen yogurt shop over its "diet foods," as Insider's Callie Ahlgrim reported.


In 2018, Lovato told Insider that grappling with disordered eating is "a daily thing," and they have previously struggled with orthorexia and bulimia.

Pixie cuts are unflattering on so many women. Demi does not have the right face shape to make it work. It makes her head look even more square than before. Pixie cuts on women only really look good if said women have very delicate features and a more angular face. Whoever said this looked good to her is lying, but I bet she paid a hairstylist at least $300 for this.

I've suspected she'll end up crashing pretty hard, hard enough to make Lindsay Lohan blush. Demi has had a rather unhinged look in her eyes for a long time, like she's on something, or maybe she should be on something. But it's probably too late since she has brain damage from drug abuse. She spends a good chunk of time on IG simping for gays (who have rights and laws protecting them), black criminals including Saint Fentanyl Floyd, troon athletes please just keep them out of sports, trans blacks, more black criminals, and Asians... but only when a white man does something bad. She also loves telling people in other states who they should vote for. She uploaded a disturbing amount of posts about the Georgia elections even though she lives in LA. She told all her followers to vote for Warnock because black man good and white man bad.

She has a lot of support from blacks who are claiming that they "don't have a voice" and self-hating whites. A lot of celebrities can't shut up about politics, but Demi's social media pages take it to a whole new level and she soaks it all up. Someone needs to take her phone away and get her out of LA, but they won't. I wonder how fast her fan base would turn on her if she slipped up. Right now she's getting away with endlessly talking about muh eating disorder, drugs, and now lecturing everyone on how to talk to a non-binary person. "I'm more than [insert one of her many problems here]" yeah no you're really not if you talk about it 24/7.

I didn't know she chopped her hair off and wow it looks awful. She really doesn't have the features to pull off such short hair. Instead of looking cute and flirty she just looks even crazier.

No. I don’t think she will go transgender. Her body and mind have already been taking too much damage I don’t want her to risk it. Besides she is non-binary now anyway so that’s like good enough.
