Looking back to old gaming memories via soundtracks of games I played, I have one other one to share.

Back when I was young little sped in elementary school, I owned the first model version of the PS2. One of said memories I had with the console was playing an old JRPG from 2001 called Okage Shadow King. I have enough memories to remember the beginning of the game (your sister gets attacked by a spoopy ghost, and through a pact with some evil king, she gets a pink shadow and you become the servant of an evil king that takes over your shadow). Beyond that part of the beginning, I had memories of going through the next town in the game, Madril. Entering the town, I was greeted with a song that I could remember by some of its beats (it's a damn catchy song in my opinion). One of the other memories I had beyond that was fighting against the first two bosses, a giant rat and a giant fish. I remember the fish more since I actually got into a very tough boss fight. I can remember beating him down to the last guy (the main character. He has to stay alive otherwise it's game over.)

One other memory I had with the PS2 I own besides Okage and King's Field was Medal of Honor: Frontlines. Barely can remember much except going through much of the game, shooting up Nazi machinegun nest at a distance in D-Day to going through war-torn portion of a city while a somber tune played through out. One of the things I will always remember from the game is to beware the chef. The guy could do some mean damage with a kitchen knife he throws. I can also remember a drunken nazi who moved slowly and wouldn't pay much attention to me killing his buddies. Must of been one hammered nazi to not know there is an American soldier shooting up all the other nazis.
Whoa, the shadow in Okage bears an uncanny resemblance to those in Blue Dragon.

Only difference is that Okage has some evil dude as your shadow.

One other old gaming memory to share for now: one other game I have memories of playing during middle to high school was an N64 game called Hybrid Heaven. It's kind of an RPG except you don't get spells and better armor. Rather you get different wrestling moves and you level up individual parts (arms, head, legs, and torso) of your body through fighting and getting hit.

The whole game itself is memorable since all save for some giant alien are fought in hand to hand combat. That mean't from the first monster down to the final boss was all fought in this sort of manner
Now to list things in a more specific manner:
-One of the things I fought included robots. I don't just mean some humanoid droid but also something that looks like a sort of ED knock-off from Robo-Cop (minus any sort of guns). You basically beat it down mostly with your fist (guns can be found but they are single use). In a way, it's pretty badass that a machine is beaten not with a gun but rather with the fist.

-Most fights I had after reaching a point where my character discovers his true identity, I enjoyed grappling enemies and headbutting them. It was one of the memorable things I had done in the game aside from punching said robots.

-The ending. Once I beaten the final boss in a fight to the death, things took for a bit of a turn. The memorable part of this for me was first half of the ending.
Aside from escaping the facility with the President, the ending starts off with the main character entering a taxi. Within the cab, the TV plays a broadcast of the President being punched by none other than the President. To make sense of it, the punched president is just an alien clone that was going to help kickstart an invasion for his master that I killed earlier. After punching the imposter, the President gives out a thumbs up and the main character thumbs up at the tv in return.

Used to play this shit when I was a kid:

Fuck yeah, I played that game all the time when I was younger.

I also remember the first time I ever played an NES. I was living with my cousin at the time, and he owned one of those, along with a couple cartridges. I remember spending most of my time dying in Mario Bros. I also remember playing the NES port of Pac-Man once too when I was extremely young (we're talking 3-4 years old here).

Thinking over old vidya memories that stood out, I'm gonna bring up Star Fox 64.

Memories I have that stands out. Every time I beat Andrew Oikonny, I remember one thing he yelled: UNCLE ANDROSS. The second part of the memory was going to Venom on hard mode. Never took the hard path but I did reach the planet after beating MacBeth through the train switches. I pretty much had a hard time beating Star Wolf since they are on hard mode which mean't my team gets wiped out. I managed to get lucky in beating them a couple times with all four on my tail, just barrel rolling and spinning. Speaking of MacBeth earlier, I always enjoyed that mission compared to the desert planet where I had to rescue Slippy. I did enjoy trying to take out a train while dreading the possibility of missing the switches (if I did want to beat the game with the Andross brain instead of the mechanical head).

One misc thing to say about Star Fox 64 was that I thought Slippy was a girl due to the voice. Also prefer Wolf's voice in that game (it's a bit of a Britbong sort of accent).

I started gaming with the PS1. My first game being Crash Bandicoot 2.

I remember spending a lot of my childhood in the first warp room. I wasn't able to get past the snowball level for the longest time. And the concept of saving was completely foreign to me, so I found myself replaying those four other levels so many times. But I didn't care. It was fun to me.

Then there was Spyro the Dragon. The very first game I've both beaten AND completed. I loved that game. The worlds were mesmerizing, the music was catchy, I loved roasting enemies with Spyro's fire breath, and I felt awesome for taking down Gnast Gnorc and actually seeing that the game had both an ending AND a credit sequence like a movie. I really felt like I accomplished something. (Even though looking back, the game was pretty easy)

Then there was Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. That game definitely stuck with me for my entire life. It had a pretty dreary tone and atmosphere and it helped me understand the concepts of slavery, exploiting the weak, and over-industrialization. If only at a base level.

It helped that Abe, the protagonist, was such a loveable and goofy guy that I can relate to. I remember shedding tears when I first saw the bad endings to both this game and Exoddus.

Speaking of bad endings, I also loved how it integrated a moral choice system that didn't feel tacked on or gimmicky. Save enough of your fellow workers, and you'll be hailed as a hero. Leave them to their fate, and the surviving ones won't save you when you need help the most.

Bottom line, I fucking love Oddworld.

I remember my parents teaching me to play Super Mario World on the SNES at the tender age of four. After that, I was hooked.
Played a lot of SNES, especially using the Gameboy cartridge adapter. Super Mario Land 2, Kirby's Dream Land and Link's Awakening were my favorites.
I stole something from the store in Link's Awakening, because it cost 999 Rupees and 5-year-old me was like, "Fuck that." Went back in some time later and the shopkeeper electrocuted me to death.
... I didn't pick that game up again for many years.

I'm gonna sperg hard here, so bear with me

Okay, so I'm a hardcore fan of Super Smash Bros. My brother had the first game on the N64 and I bought every sequel for my self since. I love them all, but Melee remains to be my favorite. There's was so much stuff to do in the game, my young little brain couldn't handle it when I got for Christmas. I remember spending much of my time alone in the Event mode. Event mode was something that can test your patience, but I never knew how intense things could get until I made it to Event match #51 (Then I realized years later that competitive play was a much bigger nightmare, but that's another story).

If you haven't played Melee, Event match #51 had you face off against Giga Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf, all with 3 lives on Final Destination. It doesn't sound too bad until you play it and get your ass kicked. Giga Bowser's so huge, his attacks are hard to dodge, if you dodge them Ganondorf is right behind to fix that, and all the while Mewtwo stays back and tries to steal all the items. Little kid me couldn't handle the challenge, and never completed it. Little kid me was also a fucking idiot and the deleted the profile by accident so I was back at square one.

Years passed and I did get everything back, and I was back where I left off. By this time, I played Smash pretty competitively with my best friend and we decided it was time to give #51 a shot again. We took turns constantly with our best characters, but it still seemed impossible. It eventually hit midnight and it was my turn again. By this point, I was thinking of giving up since we were at it for over an hour, but I pulled myself together in hopes of finally beating it.

Around 5 minutes is how long it took me. In Melee matches, that's an eternity. But in the end I just barely won with Samus (sure I just spammed her missiles, but a win's a win). My friend and I cheered so loud I woke my parents up. But I didn't care, something that had tortured me for years was finally beaten, and that memory is actually why I will always say Melee is my favorite.

Nowadays, I can actually beat it pretty easily. It's kinda funny how something you thought was difficult is significantly less of a threat once you've beaten it once. Even if it was just luck.

I mostly watched my brother play games when I was little, and one of his favorites was Spider-Man for the PS1. The amount of sheer terror that overcame me when I saw Monster Ock for the first time...

Pretty self-explanatory, lol. The final part of the game being a chase sequence just made things worse. (Also, if he catches up to you, you're treated to a special cutscene where Ock starts to tear Spidey apart instead of just getting the game over screen.) Can't remember if it gave me nightmares, but it sure as hell scared the shit out of me.

Playing Mission Impossible 64 and using a cheat code to give myself guns so I could kill everyone in the embassy party mission. Good times.

I know this has been barren for more than a decade but I'd rather necro than clog up the forum with more threads so I'll share my first gaming memory here because I still think about it to this day:

I'm a zoomer so my first memory was playing on my uncle's Windows XP way back when. I was around 6-8 years old and I started with some cs_assault on Counter-Strike 1.6 and had fun. I then swapped to Starcraft with the Brood War expansion. I first tried to start with the Brood War campaign but when a pop-up recommended I do the base campaign first, I complied and went over to the Terran campaign. I finished a couple missions and watched all the cinematics until the mission where you lead Jim Raynor and a squad to infiltrate a base of sorts (Google tells me this is the Jacobs Installation mission).

I loaded into the mission. For that specific mission, Raynor used a marine sprite colored his usual blue-green while the rest of the squad were also marine sprites but colored red. Before I could take control of the units, my uncle walked into the room. He saw red-colored units on the screen and for some reason, took hold of the mouse. He then proceeded to tell me the red guys were 'the bad guys' and made Raynor kill all of them. He then walked away just before Raynor killed the last marine and I got a fucking mission failed screen.

I still don't know what the fuck was wrong with him because even child me was left dumbfounded and turned off the computer after that.

I was addicted to the original Punch Out!! arcade game. I first came across it at Dorney Park in their arcade section. I was instantly hooked. Shortly thereafter, it popped up at a local convenience store, and I played the fuck outta that thing. I honestly believe I must have put somewhere betweem $75 and $100 in that machine for the roughly 6 or so months it was there. My favorite memory of that time was blowing my $5 allowance (again) on Punch Out!! then making the sad trek home as I was out of $$ (again). What should happen as I'm walking home, dejected and down in the dumps?... I found $5 (I'm pretty sure it was 5, it could have been $10) right there on the fuckin' sidewalk. HOT DAMN!! I hustled my ass back to play some more Punch Out!! I got a bit of a hassle from the guy behind the counter when I asked him to exchange quarters for my $$, he told me I was using up all his quarters. I suggested he just get them from the game, which he did, lol.

Damn, I wasted a lot of $$ on Punch Out!!

@Tommy John Surgery he thought they were Russians is my best guess, lol.

The most vivid ones? Lesseee...

-Got so depressed once I barricaded myself in my friend's house I was staying at (he was busy trying to hook back up with his ex wife at her house, so not a big deal) and played Xenogears straight through. Took me 4 days like that. Not sure if it helped or not.
-More fun one, my then friend and I stayed up all night and were fucking jazzed as hell to finally beat Goonies 2 after trading turns playing and map making.
