SNK ending was shit and got even worse. Now Miura dies before Guts got his happy ending. Who's next, Togashi? Oda? Fuck man I'm genuinely sad.

Genuinely shocked about this, dude was only 54, it's just terrible. As many said, many joked about this happening someday but never truly meaning it. Rest in peace, one of the absolute greats.

It’s gonna be tough these next few years. Can’t imagine what’ll be like when Anno dies.

Actually one of the most devastating things to happen in all my years reading manga.

Berserk was the manga that got me into reading manga and influenced god knows how many manga authors over the years.

The fact the manga will never be finished is sad. But losing Miura at 54 is fucking horrible and tragic.

Thanks for everything Miura. You truly were one of the greatest mangaka.

I was just running over here to post about this.

To think that Berserk will never be finished and we will never know the ending is extremely, extremely unfortunate.

Supposedly he was training his assistants to copy his art style

If he didn't draft an ending, then yeah, it's fucking over

That's a horrible way to go. Geeze.

I appreciate the man far more for his art than Berserk as a narrative, but still, that's a devastating loss. Rest in Peace.

Is there a precedent for this? I have to assume he can’t be the FIRST mangaka to pass away before finishing his work, but I dunno if Japan has the same expectation that an author will have their work posthumously published.
I believe One Pieces author has prepared his assistants to take over if shit goes south for him. I know for a fact Miura has an outline and a group of assistants that have been around for a long time. He’s really relied on them for the past few arcs, part of why there’s been a huge change in art style. He’s had to have been anticipating this. I wonder if it was chronic.

Anno at least finished Rebuild. He deserves a long rest however he so pleases.
Even if he passed away before 3.0+1.0 got released, it's not just HIS movie, there was a whole team of writers and artists working on it (many who have worked with him since the NGE days) who would've been in tune with whatever his "vision" was, and would be able to finish the movie without his continued input and likely dedicate it in his memory. Manga's just... inherrently not the same. Based on what others have said, it seems like even though the story's nearing its conclusion, there's way too much left for the assistants to just be able to wrap up in a couple of chapters, because even if they can replicate his artstyle, and even if they have a rough outline for his story, the important stuff like the writing and panel layout were presumably still under his control.
