I really don't get all the pandering to the LGBTBBQ "community". This kind of open pandering from the government and corporations would have been unthinkable a decade.
I forget where I saw this, but I think it was another kiwi that talked about this. In a nutshell, this all started with Hollywood realizing that because gays are so desperate for any kind of media portraying them, they can score an easy instant audience by throwing "gay representation" into whatever schlock they decide to throw out. Quality is irrelevant; as long as there's two dudes making out, gays will buy it up in droves. They may be a minority, but they get very much into anything "queer-coded" or what have you, so it turned into an easy way to make a quick buck. Owning the conservatives by making queer bait is icing on the cake.
Other businesses got in on the act in the last few years, especially after the Supreme Court
somehow found the right for gay marriage in the Constitution, thus signaling it was okay to start pandering in force. The same mentality applies: throw a rainbow on your logo, sell some rainbow merch, throw out a few boilerplate "we stand with gays" messages on social media, and enjoy the boost to your bottom line from queers that are more than happy to be pandered to. Again, they never once stop to think about how cynical this all is, they just bask in all the hollow support and rainbow colors everywhere.
In short, fuck Pride™, it's ruined the entire month of June for me. I don't hate gays, but I sure do hate obnoxious pandering.
(On a side note, that was one positive to the Saint Floyd of Fentanyl riots last year. Everyone was so swept up in needing to bend the knee to BLM that they didn't do anywhere near as much of their normal rainbow messaging in June. Still retarded, but at least it didn't blind me.)
