Point of clarification for anyone who ever finds themselves in a self defense situation. This gets misrepresented all the time, but no self defense instructor worth his salt will advise you to assess a self defense situation exactly this way.

Never characterize your intention as being one to "kill". You're using deadly force to "stop the threat" no more no less. If the threat is worthy of using deadly force then, logically the conclusion is that death is a likely outcome. But your intention is only to stop the threat, not to kill, or wound, or anything more or less than the necessary amount of force to stop the threat.

Or even better: shut up and let a lawyer talk for you because the tiniest little slip, or poor word choice could fuck you over hard. Still, keep this in mind before, during, and after engaging any kind of self defense.

Look under menacing, it's usually covered under that. Also, local ordinances are going to be the ones that have discharge of a firearm in suburban areas/around schools, rather than the state level code, because obviously a semi-rural town may allow for varmint small animal killing if you have some acreage.
