Jerusalem, Ashkelon and Gaza (CNN)The worst violence in years between Israelis and Palestinians showed no signs of letting up Wednesday, as continued Israeli airstrikes and Hamas rocket fire prompted the United Nations to warn the conflict could mushroom into "full-scale war."
Israel's bombing campaign in Gaza has now killed at least 67 people, including 17 children, and injured more than 388 more, according to the Gaza-based Palestinian health ministry. Israel says at least 15 of the dead were Hamas militants.
"Stop the fire immediately. We're escalating towards a full-scale war," tweeted UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland. "The cost of war in Gaza is devastating & is being paid by ordinary people. UN is working w/ all sides to restore calm. Stop the violence now."

Militants in Gaza have fired more than 1,000 rockets into Israel since the latest flareup began Monday afternoon, injuring more than 200 Israeli civilians, the Israeli military said Wednesday. A six-year-old boy became the seventh Israeli fatality when a rocket fired from Gaza struck a residential building in Sderot, according to an emergency responder. Around 130 rockets hit Tel Aviv last night, forcing Israel's main international airport, Ben Gurion to close.

Considering how much they hate each other already and the smaller force just antagonized the larger force into attacking, I see no reason for this to not spiral into WW3.

Well to be a world war you would need strong powers on every side willing to fight.

On the Israelis side they have Russians and America. At least supportive if a bit on the down low.
On the Palestinians side you have no one. At the most they could maybe hope on Europe writing a sternly worded letter, but they are not interested.

I only see this culminating into a full-scale war if Palestine winds up bombing something that belongs to Russia or the US. Otherwise just let them go at it, why give a shit when the Middle East is constantly throwing things at each other already?

This is a point that almost no one outside the Muslim world realizes. Palestinians are the absolute bottom of the totem pole; the Irish of the Arab world. Support for Palestine came mostly from general opposition to Israel and from the idea of Pan-Arabism, which was devasted after the Six Day war and has been walking corspe until it finally died in the Arab Spring. Nobody gives a shit about Palestine in a way that involves more than half-hearted protest against Israel.

American journalists, lawyers, and bankers should answer the Maccabean call and return to the holy land to fight for mother Israel.

Nobody likes HAMAS. Nobody. They fucked up royally when they played footsie with ISIS and got blackballed. Even the Turks noped the fuck out after that and the Mavi Marmara incident was a major set piece bit of brinksmanship ran by them.

The Palestinians you are thinking of that every leftist has a raging sympathy boner for is Fatah and the PA. Different entity entirely. They have nothing to do with Gaza.
