The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies says it was alerted Sunday to a Nazi and a Confederate flag on a property near Breton, Alta.

A Hitler Youth flag has been spotted flying over a rural Alberta property for the second time in the span of a week.

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies says it was alerted Sunday to a Nazi and a Confederate flag on a property near Breton, Alberta.

The news comes less than a week after RCMP convinced a property owner near the northern Alberta village of Boyle to remove a similar flag.
In a news release, the centre said the property owner refused to remove the flags after being approached by Breton RCMP. Postmedia has reached out to RCMP for comment.

The centre filed criminal complaints in relation to both flags, alleging the property owners are wilfully promoting hatred and demanded police conduct a hate crimes investigation.

“It is extremely disturbing and quite disheartening to once again see a Hitler Youth flag, as well as the Confederate flag, on display,” said Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, the Toronto-based centre’s director of policy. “These displays of hate go against the values that Canada stands for and are an attack on not only the Jewish and Black communities, but also on our veterans and fallen soldiers who made unspeakable sacrifices to defeat the Nazis and preserve our freedoms.”

Brazeau County Reeve Bart Guyon called the flag “disturbing.”

“I’m not sure what their objective is by doing that,” he said.

Breton’s chief administrative officer said the property is not within the boundaries of the village, which she noted was founded by Black settlers.
In a tweet, the Jewish Federation of Edmonton said they were aware of the flag and have been in contact with law enforcement.

“This is the second incident in Alberta in as many weeks. These images remain deeply offensive to our community and to the vast majority of Canadians.”

A northern Alberta property owner has removed a Nazi flag after a visit from police, RCMP say.

Earlier this week, photos emerged on social media showing a red, white and black swastika flying over a property in Athabasca County near Boyle on Highway 831.

A phone number listed for the business is disconnected.

In an email Thursday, RCMP spokesman Fraser Logan said Boyle RCMP spoke to the property owner the previous evening. “The flag was taken down voluntarily that evening, and our investigation continues as to whether this is criminal or not,” he said.
Athabasca County Coun. Doris Splane, who represents the area, said Thursday that she did not have enough information to comment on the matter. In a statement, the county council said it was aware of “an inappropriate flag flown on private property located within the county.

“Athabasca County prides itself on being a warm and welcoming region,” Reeve Larry Armfelt said. “This type of display, and the messages it sends, has no place in our communities.”

The flag is that of the Hitler Youth, a former paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party for boys aged 14 to 18.

Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, director of policy with the Toronto-based Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, said the organization has filed a criminal complaint about the flag with Boyle RCMP.

“I was shocked, very disturbed, very concerned to see someone flying a Nazi flag with a swastika right in the middle,” she said. “The swastika is a symbol … of hatred, of terror, of genocide.”

She said those responsible should be held accountable, saying they could be charged with wilful promotion of hatred.
“We are urging RCMP to pursue this as a hate-motivated incident because such a flag should not be flying in our country,” she said.

Boyle is 145 km north of Edmonton

Do they just have teams of people that roam the land looking for offensive stuff? This is a pretty rural area. You'd have to go out of your way to see stuff like this. Not that I am a fan of nazi flags, but there is a difference between someone flying something offensive and someone actually trying to exterminate Jews or other non-whites. I mean, they let people spray paint "kill all cops" during BLM protests (not to mention the actual violence and arson) and didn't treat that as a direct threat. How is a flag a direct threat to anyone if the words calling for actual murder aren't considered to be dangerous?

The hypocrisy of it all is what I find offensive. Treat the nazi/MAGA tards exactly like you treat the BLM/antifa morons. Lenient or hard-ass, the treatment should be equal under the law.

I'm Polish so to me, there isn't much difference between flying this flag and the Soviet hammer and sickle.
Both are considered hate symbols by my people.
If one is allowed then the other should be allowed as well.

I'm glad the article pointed out that that was the Hitler Youth flag and not the NSDAP flag or I'd be #triggered.

You expect me to believe that someone--in Canada no less--is so unconcerned with their life and property that they would openly fly both a Nazi and a Confederate flag on their own property?

You could see this shit glowing from the Spica system.

Is the Confederate flag a thing in Canada or is this just someone who ordered the "make people mad" flag pack online? Both flags seem like odd choices to fly, especially in leafland.
If the Confederate flag is a thing up north, what does it represent?

Canada was the final destination for escaped slaves in the underground railroad. So I imagine they learn a good bit about the American Civil War in school.

Do these people ever stop for a moment and think that just maybe they're being a little bit neurotic if one hick in Alberta flying a flag on his property is enough to cause them to start hyperventilating?
