For the body to be so decayed they couldn't do a fingerprint test she would have had to have died nearly a month ago, right?

Man, I really hope we find out the gritty details of what they did with the corpse during all that time.

There are people 'worshipping' Chris to try and get any sort of attention from him. Compared to that, I'd rate this as slightly better.
 
Abuse of a corpse in Colorado has a couple of different definitions:
(a) Removes the body or remains of any person from a grave or other place of sepulcher without the consent of the person who has the right to dispose of the remains pursuant to section 15-19-106; (b) Treats the body or remains of any person in a way that would outrage normal family sensibilities. (3)(a) A defendant may not be convicted of both abuse of a corpse, as described in subsection (1) of this section, and tampering with a deceased human body, as described in section 18-8-610.5(1), if the act arises out of a single incident. (b) If a defendant is charged with both abuse of a corpse, as described in subsection (1) of this section, and tampering with a deceased human body, as described in section 18-8-610.5(1), the court shall proceed pursuant to section 18-1-408.

So since she wasn't buried (in a grave or sepulcher), it sounds like it would have to be the "outrage normal family sensibilities" thing. EDIT: Four of them were charged with tampering, and three with abuse of a corpse. You cannot be charged with both.

The tampering code is also very wide-ranging. Could be just moving it. Could be mutilation. They were definitely trying to hide the fact that she was dead, which is always a felony. And crossing state lines would obviously qualify.
(1) A person commits tampering with a deceased human body if, believing that an official proceeding is pending, in progress, or about to be instituted and acting without legal right or authority, the person willfully destroys, mutilates, conceals, removes, or alters a human body, part of a human body, or human remains with intent to impair its or their appearance or availability in the official proceedings.

Abuse of a corpse is actually a lesser offense - a class 6 felony. Tampering is a class 3 felony.

Not a coroner, just someone who watches a lot of true crime shit, but as far as I know it really depends on the conditions the corpse was in. Was it kept in a warm/wet place, or somewhere dry/cold? If they kept her wrapped in the back seat/trunk of a car for instance (as they supposedly transported the body across state lines) depending on weather it could have been exposed to higher temperatures, hastening the decomposition/putrefaction process. It’s really fascinating/a little disturbing how quickly a body can degrade in the right conditions.

I’ve read studies that claim biometric data is difficult to gather after as little as four days in warm weather (due to hastening of above mentioned process, resulting in stuff like skin slippage etc), so she could have been dead for a little less than a week at this point. Who knows though, hopefully we find out more as the authorities release information.
 
I'd never heard of this group before, just read the whole thread, and damn. Fascinating. Echoing what others have said, but really interested to see what info comes out about all of this in court.

Apparently, depending on the conditions the body is kept in biometrics such as fingerprints are useable between 4 and 50 days after death.

Now, obviously an Iphone finger print scanner and whatever this police department use is not going to be the same. Many police departments will probably retain the old ink and roll capability too in case of system failure etc.

That said, the exact answer is not that important - the important part is that she was dead for a minimum of 4 days and probably longer before authorities got to the body.
*Unless they have a departmental policy that limits this, in which case they will likely have other indicators pointing towards time of death.
