That could kill him. No exaggeration. I’m sure you all know this though.

I know for Luna many in this thread think a stroke would be a gift to her but wouldn’t it be better if the mother had one? I don’t think much is known about the dad, but even though he’s clearly also retarded for allowing this shit doubt he could afford to support both of the babies alone so maybe Luna would end up at a doctor if he’s even 10% less crazy than his wife. I just want a doctor to take one look at that kid so someone in the real world understands the absolute fucking horror that is the mother of these children.

Yes, child abuse makes me autistic. I accept the rating.
Taking a days old newborn to a back cracker is absolute lunacy. The baby does not need “manipulations”. The baby needs sleep and cuddles.

Just an FYI to the posters writing fanfic about the future. The longest surviving case of multicystic encephalomalacia is 30 months. Luna will not live long enough for Atlas to have any memory of her.

Luna isn’t like the Hartley’s or other severely disabled kids where the conditions are sorta of unknown or the lifespan indeterminate due to many factors. Luna’s condition is fatal and fatal within a very specific time span. Maybe Robyn will achieve a record breaking 31 months, mercifully Luna isn’t going to live to her third birthday. No need to worry about the future for her, just Atlas.

Luna was born in the beginning of 2019, correct? So we're talking at most a few months.

The way she moves in videos is so unnaturally. You can tell theres nothing there beyond nervous system spasms :(

Luna was born January 20th, 2019 which was 830 days ago, 27 months and one week. So, she might beat that record unfortunately. Perhaps the shunt or slow metabolism due to little brain activity has extended her lifespan? What medical interventions did the other baby receive?

Is there usually a downhill period or do they just not wake up one day (if there's a pattern)?

Probably not much, because it’s basically just prolonging the suffering and it’s entirely futile. I think Luna’s shunt was done more for Robyn than any real benefit to Luna

Here is a case study with imagery of the brain.

Here’s another study

But in this study the newborns developed multicystic encephalomalacia due to “shaken baby syndrome” - basically any severe head trauma (like getting squeezed in the birth canal and being deprived of oxygen) can cause it in newborns.

Sort of interesting to note that many cases of this condition occur after birth, within in the first few weeks, due to head trauma. One case mentions a 6 week old baby falling off a bed and being unconscious for 30 minutes as the suspected cause. She was Dx at 6 months.

Could be either, but how much more downhill is there for Luna to go? She’s sort of run out of road.

I hope it happens as soon and as painlessly as possible. Poor thing has suffered enough.
I fucking fear for Atlas and however many other kids Robyn manages to pop out before her womb gives out. Imagine being born in a first world country to fairly well-off parents and getting the same healthcare as a serf in medieval Europe.

Looks like the longest case at the moment was 993 days which was a rarity and it was not birth injury but AHT under 1 year old related.

"Abusive head trauma (AHT) is one of the most severe forms of physical child abuse. If a child initially survives severe AHT the neurological outcome can be poor. In recent years several children were seen who developed multicystic encephalomalacia (MCE) after documented severe AHT. A search of the Netherlands Forensic Institute database in The Hague was performed. Inclusion criteria were cases of AHT between 1999 and 2010 where the child was under the age of 1 year old at the time of trauma. Trauma mechanism and radiological information were collected. Five children, three boys and two girls (mean age 57 days, range 8–142 days) who developed cystic encephalomalacia after inflicted traumatic brain injury were included. Survival ranged from 27 to 993 days. In all cases judicial autopsy was performed. All cases came before court and in each case child abuse was considered to be proven. In two cases the perpetrator confessed, during police interrogation, to shaking of the child only. Although a known serious outcome, this is one of the few reports on MCE as a result of AHT. In all cases the diagnosis was confirmed at autopsy."

Here's a link to a study with some grossing (and gross) photographs instead of scans. Note the ages of each patient at autopsy; two of them died on the day of birth, one at 8 days of age, and the fourth at 34 days.

(PubMed link to the same article here.)

Also, just for those who are unfamiliar with this kind of stuff, a six week old baby doesn't get a catastrophic brain injury by falling off of a bed. (:_(

I've handled better-looking brains from post-mortem CTE and stroke victims.

Granted, I've never held a brain from an infant before...

Sorry about that did not realize I was using things inappropriately. I'll go through and edit the posts to remove them.

No, there would be a lot cyst filled baby skulls if just falling off a bed managed to cause that damage. But falling off the bed sounds better than “I shook my baby till it stopped crying” and won’t get you arrested for murder.

Theres a crazy ass documentary on youtube about this "The Syndrome" where people try to say that those types of injuries can happen because the baby "was sick" or things like that.

If By “was sick” they meant left alone with mom’s dirtbag boyfriend I’ll buy it. “Shaken Baby Syndrome” became a huge issue years ago, to the point I remember a huge years long PSA campaign where the message was just “never ever shake a baby” repeated over and over.

The incidences seemed to increase due to the jump in single mothers (with non-trust worthy men in the home left with the baby) and medical awareness of issue due to radiology.

I think there would be a massive problem with parents ever admitting what they did. I’m sure most just go into total denial mode and look for anything else to blame it on besides that night you shook the shit out of your 8 week old infant because it wouldn’t stop crying.

I’d bet they suspected Robyn and hubby of it until she related her 3-day labor extravaganza and they realized Luna’s head was crushed by repeated contractions in the birth canal, not getting shook by angry dad or mom.

I've harvested post-kainic acid kindled status epilepticus mouse brains that were in better shape. I probably treated my subjects with more respect than Robyn treats Luna, too.

Kindling induced status epilepticus refers to administering repeated doses of a compound at regular intervals to cause constant seizures, resulting in death. It's a brutal procedure to have to do, especially when you've gotten to know your mice over months. F, little buddies.
