Alright so earlier today I saw this, threw it a garbage icon, and walked away because it pissed me off but I've been mulling it over in my head.

Firstly the "It's just fiction/a cartoon" mindset comes from or was popularized by the ludicrous over-the-top moral panics of the 90s and early 2000s that insisted playing GTA turns you into a mass muderer. This idea was so stupid and obviously false that many people just accepted that fiction does not affect reality. It's the shortest, easiest explanation. As has been pointed out, fiction DOES affect reality but seldom in the way you expect. Just saying "Jaws made people fear sharks*" doesn't explain why it's okay to ban certain pieces of media and honestly this tranny nonsense is one of the best examples.

(*also a friend of mine pointed out that sharks had always been used to represent the terrors of the deep for hundreds of years before Jaws. Yes, Jaws may have caused an uptick in shark hunting, but why did Jaws feature a shark in the first place?)

A few months ago this random indie game called Sense got shit for its hyper sexualized character designs and some of them were insisting the game promoted trooning out because it had oversexed female characters and they actually tried to encourage Nintendo to pull it from their store because of it. Yes nothing actually came of it and the dev tried to use the handful of harassment they got as a marketing tool, but as a fan of these sorts of character designs, this pissed me off and it got me thinking about the issue here.

I can personally vouch, from experience, that I had considered trooning out because anime and videogame ladies are too fucking awesome and I wanted to be like them. We have a gratuitous amount of evidence of this happening to a shocking number of troons. Was this the intended effect of these characters and designs? No. Yet we see this effect.

...and yet I DIDN'T troon out. Why is that? Oh, because I looked up "How does SRS work?", read an article explaining it, and went "OH EGAD THIS IS THE WORST FUCKING IDEA EVER! THOSE POOR TRANNIES THEY ALL GOT RIPPED THE MOTHERFUCK OFF!" my favorite part was when they said that ladies who get a new penis will feel like "how a dick feels after a cold shower" to which my response was "Oh wow, that's barely a dick at all-wait...how the fuck do YOU know what a dick after a cold shower feels like?! How would you compare it against a Nu-Dick?! How do you even KNOW this?!"

Of course, this was decades ago before the internet went trans-tastic. So if you ask me, the problem isn't that porn makes men want to be women, but that there are big toxic communities actively encouraging men to chop their dicks off and obfuscating the problems and dangers with such a thing.

Apologies if I misinterpreted your post, I'm just seeing rising support for censorship from both the left and the right and as a "Free Speech Absolutist", this worries me.

media full of hot girls has been around for a long ass time now, but the great trooning only really started some ~10 years ago

i think that's because exposure to oversexualized media in and of itself doesn't really do anything besides make the occasional horny teenager think "man having boobs must be nice, girls are so lucky" and that's it. left to their own, these thoughts won't even be taken seriously by the dudes having them and just disappear after a while.

I've seen comments blaming it on being vegan. She looked this way for a good bit, like in this picture with her ex-wife.

She lost a lot of fat in her face, so her jaw and laugh lines are super prominent, and her head looks huge compared to her neck. I get the feeling she thinks it makes her look more masculine, but it just makes her look gaunt. I can't tell if she had anything done to her lips, but they look cracked and chapped to me, like she's dehydrated.

There's just no light in her eyes nowadays, which makes the effect overall more chilling.
