Two 8-month-old pit bulls that were loose in Nanaimo attacked several children, severely injuring at least one. Other people that came to aid the children were also injured.

The children were playing in a yard at the house of one of their friends. The dogs were from somewhere else in the neighborhood and had been cited for being at large previously.

One of the owners of the dogs came and got the dogs but did not stick around. The news interviewed the other owner, a Dangerhair that looked to be in her late 40s or early 50s. While she was devastated at what her dogs had done, she said to the reporter, "People are saying, look at this from the prospective of a parent, well, these dogs are my kids, too," and then she broke down crying.

It was later reported both dogs were euthanized, as there have been other incidents prior to this one, and due to the severity of the injuries the one particular child sustained.

To the dangerhair dog owner I would have to say, "If these dogs were your KIDS, you did a lousy job of raising them. Thank heavens you didn't spawn any of your own."

Reposting from the "RIP" thread -- us "loving" DMX is extremely hypocritical. Much of the degenerate culture of gangsta blacks were inspired/reinforced by him (he didn't invent them, "ebil society made me like dis", but he sure as hell reinforced it). We can talk about race and cultural aspects, but I want to focus on one thing many of the posters here have strong feelings about. Pit bulls (pibbles, baby-eaters). He was part of the ilk who made pibbles "popular" and now we have murder dogs everywhere in US society.

I know kiwis like his music because of nostalgia and that he had the "lol fag" attitude, but every time he showed and barked like, he reinforced this nasty gangsta dog culture. Why? Is it just because "his music is cool, lol". Perhaps, but it makes me sad nonetheless.

He never popularized “murder dogs”. They were already bred into oblivion mostly starting in the 80’s by gangsters and criminals who wanted a dog to slow down a police raid while they ran away. The pits took the place of Rottweilers and dobermans. Cheap, very muscular, scary looking dogs who are intelligent and will do whatever you ask because they are loyal AF.

Reading through this thread today and I really wish someone would take the time to clean out like 20+ pages of shitposts cluttering it up. Just autodelete Dyn and maybe 1 other poster, problem solved.

LOL. Dyn has actually made some very informed and comprehensive posts here (and, yes, I know who he is). Learn to deal with different opinions.

While I can't argue with statistics, I also can't witchhunt them, either. In the times that I have been bitten by dogs (thankfully very few and nothing serious), it was due to my dumb ass and those dogs had issues that I could never fault them for. One of these breeds that bit me was a husky; should I fear or hate huskies now or simply be more guarded around that specific dog and muzzle it/ask for help handling it?

Maybe I'm too soft when it comes to animals or maybe I don't want to look like an asshole in refusing to deal with certain animals that are stigmatized, but I can't demonize pit bulls - or any other breed for that matter. Oh, I'm more than aware now about the stats and aggressive traits (I know someone who breeds rotties and she uses the nasty ones for some batshit reason), but I have to take every pet as an individual while keeping my guard up and reading their body language to prevent another dumb ass moment.

I feel ya! I have scars from a bite...and it was from a dachshund (no shit, really). I’ve never been bit by a bully breed.

BTW, pits/bully breeds usually don’t growl, they suddenly stiffen and get a “look” in their eyes (also the tail will be either straight up or slightly wagging).

Two of the times I got badly bitten was from a beagle/dachshund/??? mix my friend owned, bit my leg when I entered their house for the first time and drew blood. They flipped out but I just asked if she had her shots and put a bandaid on it - thankfully, she did and it didn't require stitches (that dog had mental issues...).
The other time was at work and it was an old miniature poodle that I guess picking her up hurt her somehow and work policy had me go to an urgent clinic- cops came and I had to give a report, had to get a few butterfly stitches too.

I also owned a beagle who hated young children because the owner he had before (a family member) ran child care from her home and the kids would fuck around with him until he bit one of them. She either had to give him up to animal control or give him away to someone who could deal with him proper. He was fine with me (guess because I was a little older than the age range of his assualters) but he let my brother have it at least once, bit him on the nose and he still has a small scar from it.

You always, always, always, always treat pets that are not your own warily and use proper protection when they have a documented past of aggessive behavior or simply to be safe than sorry if they're acting sus. Maybe me working more with animals than people and my own experiences has clouded my judgment on this whole controversy- all I can say with certainty is that there's some people who should never own certain breeds/species of pet, let alone pets in general.

A bit suprised there's a thread on the breed but, it also makes sense. I never liked pits myself, mostly due to the eyes (they look too human and it weirds me out) and want nothing to do with them. Fortunately my extended family, despite being 'urban', are og urban and have dobermans, shepards and guns for crackheads.

Ive always wanted a home defense dog like a rottweiler or doberman and was given one when i finally found a home. A nice dober/poodle mutt puppy from an escaped female in heat.

Tangent over, now to a recent issue. My neighbor has three male pitts they let off the leash in the neighborhood and i hate it. They chase joggers into the street and my cousins can't even play outside when they visit because those 3 dogs charge them even when they're tethered to a stake. Police won't do anything and one just told me to move if i felt unsafe. Ffs.
Ive been attacked by a mid sized dog that jumped the fence when i was younger, and i have 0 qualms defending myself if one of those pits gets loose again, or is loose already. But im near terrified about the other two pulling up on me right after.

Shepherd's shed like crazy haha. I dont like the idea of tying a dog up outside like the old ways so it wouldn't have worked out, but yeah they are a smart breed. I hope mine has some poodle brains in her at least

Those fences would work fine for most dogs but pit bulls require zoo level containment if you want to be absolutely sure they can't get in/out. Pits have been known to chew right through chain link fence, and wood slats are pretty much a joke:

Notice how the idiot owner just laughs and encourages the behaviour. I'm sure if pittie's prey drive kicked in one day and he jumped the fence to kill the neighbour's cat, dog, or child she'd be totally shocked like every other pit owner is when something like that happens.

Tail up shows confidence, which usually only goes with dominance attacks. I'd be far more concerned about tail-straight-out or tail-tucked if the ears have already flattened and the pre-attack stillness has kicked in. This goes for pretty much all breeds, not just bullies.

You have the right to shoot/kill the dogs, especially if they come into your yard. I hate to say that. I, personally, have a “no kill” policy unless an animal is a direct threat to me or my dogs. You have kids, so do what you need to do.

A friend of mine is a reformed fattie, who caught the running bug. He got a recued beagle, and the dog can do an 8 miler every morning no problem. Then is happy to bum out on the couch for the rest of the day. No Hyper activity, no aggression or barking at stuff, or just being a nuisance, because he's properly exercised.

A fairly innocent/naive friend of mine was shocked to learn that one of her (very buttoned-up, straight laced) friends had acquired a pit bull. My friend was relating to me all the shite her friend had been indoctrinated with, about how pit bulls are no more inherently aggressive than other breeds, while I rolled my eyes so hard I hurt myself. But people believe this shit when even the Washington Post is pushing the pro-pibble narrative of undeserved demonization and “look what they can achieve with the right white people pitching in to influence their lives.” No wonder they’re considered the canine version of niggers.
