Fassbinder’s In a Year of Thirteen Moons is similar in that way, though fiction. A working class married father gets a sex change on a whim, yet happiness and self acceptance elude him. I won’t spoil the ending but I think anyone who’s read this thread can guess what happens.That is a shame. I thought the depiction of Wanda in Sandman was actually very sweet and thoughtful. There's something quite tragic about old-school transsexuals. Paris Is Burning has seen a wave of mainstream attention thanks to RuPaul, but watching it I can't help but feel terribly sad because the trannies just look so hopeless and vulnerable.
