At least this one holds any kind of relevance to the Pokemon Company seeing as how they're a Japanese company. They probably didn't want to cave on the burn loot murder one but the pressure finally got to them. This one I can at least give them a pass on.
... Except, SAH is primarily about Asian Americans, this is the International branch, so you know that whoever wrote that is most likely not Japanese.

Did they not apologise over a few of their workers going to the Yasukuni Shrine, which praised Nippon's war crimes?

Off topic, but does anyone here have any reccomendations for romhacks? I know Drayano's hacks are standard fare since they basically make shit like hgss playable since otherwise gen 2's level curve, even in remake, is absolute ass, plus adding more fire types to sinnoh through the full dex, but are there any romhacks that aren't just QoL or enhancement or challenge patches you can recc? I've heard some things about rocket edition that interest me, I know pokemon is a turn-based babby game first and a jrpg second but I think having story fleshed out or having different goes at a plot via different perspectives is neat. I'm just getting sick of replaying base game platinum, and while renegade is nice, I'm just wanting something that feels new.

I know I might have shilled it on the old account but Clover is unironiclly good and not just a meme game, its a technically impressive as shit and has a sense of humor about itself

I noticed that these days genwunners are actually gen 1 and 2 fans who worship Tajiri and hate anything past Crystal. I keep hearing people sperg his “original vision” for the series but it is nothing but a bunch of narratives crafted by nostalgics. For all we know I wouldn’t be surprised if he was ok with all the controversial things people whine about in modern Pokemon. Some nostalgics even pray for him to come back and make a Pokemon game under the delusion that it would be good and save the series, not realizing that the first two gens were also a group effort.

Duly noted, probably won't make the cut for getting put on my cfw 3ds since I don't want to explain it if i'm asked by a stranger, but I'll give it a shot on a laptop emulator sometime soon. :)

I won't suck Tojiri's feet or some gay shit like that but there is some sense of irony to me related to his original vision of trying to replicate bug catching after urbanization fucked up forests and shit. But as the series went on much like cities become more developed so did the Pokémon formula become more set in stone and down to a science. Now with Acreus it seems to be trying to be developing an entirely new formula so that would be more like taring the entire thing down and starting from the foundation to make a new city.
Again I don't think letting a man who probably hasn't had direct involvement in the series since the early 2000's would fix the series, but getting back to that singular core idea he had might help them refresh the burnout they have from the series overall

I mean considering there is a literal pokemon based on islamic terrorism in Clover, understandable

What? Are you worried someone is going to randomly ask why you're catching and training a KKK member?

I had to start over when I got a new computer, but while I hadn't gone too far in Dark Violet (had reached Cerulean City), I was liking it. It's a literal challenge, trainer fights are difficult from the get-go and you can easily lose your team in one sweep. I went for it because a Mewtwo fan recommended it, but I underestimated the warnings about the tough battles. Took me three tries to get through the boss battle at Mt. Moon the first time around.

  • Pokémon Snakewood is an exceptional hack... in both senses of the word. You are going to laugh ironically and unironically.
  • If you do not mind hacks that are technically unfinished, then I heard very grea things about Pokémon Gaia nd Pokémon Unbound.
  • On adaptions, the Pokémon Adventures manga has Pokémon Adventures, though the ROM is a bi too big to flashcarts or GBA injections. There is going to an RPG Maker sequel in development.
  • The first season of the regular anime has Pokémon AshGrey. The Orange Islands arc actually has 3 adaptions.
  • If you want a 'completion' of the SpaceWorld Gold and Silver demo, there are Pokémon Super Gold 97 and Pokémon Gold and Silver 97: Reforged. The story and area i so different from the final versions. In fact, I think that you should play these games in that order because Reforged changes plenty.
  • Pokémon Emerald: Wally Version is a rather grindy and kinda glitchy adaption of Pokémon Emerald, but from Wally's perspective.
  • I like Pokémon Blazed Glazed a lot. The region is very new while the graphics have a neat coat of paint.
  • Another suc hack that I liked is Pokémon Victory Fire.
  • The Pokémon Ruby Destiny Trilogy is fun in my experience. The second game actually adapts a Mystery Dungeon game to mainstream gameplay.
  • ShockSlayer's Pokémon Crystal Clear has gotten high renown, being an open-world version of Pokémon Crystal that has lots of additions. (Do not confuse this version with Bynine's version, which is an admittedly excellent QOL and enhancement hack.)
  • Another relative pedigree ROM Hack series is the Rijon series.
  • If you like type randomisations, then you are going to like Pokémon Fool's Gold and Pokémon AlteRed.
  • Pokémon Altair/Sirius are clearly based on Pokémon Emerald, bu their Sequel Pokémon Vega takes things to a new region and a more original plot. All of them are together here. However, I recommend Pokémon Altair Minus/Sirius Minus and Pokémon Vega Minus whic have a much needed lower leveling curve. Their sequels are also in development.
  • A guilty pleasure of mine in Pokémon PurePink, which is very feminine without being 'social justice warrior feminist'. However, the ROM Hack is abandoned.
UPDATE: I made a new patch that does not make the ROM too big: https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?p=10365819#post10365819

Wow, thanks for all the reccomendations! I might start with rocket edition and dark violet for now so i don't burn out because of having too much backlog, but i'm definitely saving the list @The Ultimate Ramotith wrote up for once I knock those first 2 out. Definitely interested in most these, especially Ruby Destiny since I'm into the PMD games, and the anime and pokespe themed romhacks because I am genuinely curious how they end up adapted. I already have experience with the lolfest that is snakewood and I'd recc it to any readers just because it's... It's so fucking stupid but in a way I can get with.

Again, thank you all for the reccs :)

You are welcome. There are actually a lot of hacks that I have, though these are the ones with which I have at least som experience or big renown.
I hope that I can make a great hack one day...

You guys do realize that Africa has cities, right? And electricity, and stuff? And has different countries in it? And not all of it is at war? Africa's not just one big country of mud huts with tribes constantly at war with one another. There's places in Africa that are like that, but saying all of Africa is like that is retarded, and incredibly ignorant.

Also, I have to say it's pretty funny that most of the people who are against having an African region want a South American one even though the latter shares roughly the former's same problems (shitty infrastructure, violence, government instability, etc).

Nonsense, we all know the truth that Africa is just mudhuts, with half naked black people with giant nose bones clicking at each other, and once another race comes along, they set up the cardboard painted like building so they wont expect anything. :story:

The thing I personally was getting at was the following: Do you think that a group of Japanese programmers and designers would want to go sight-seeing anyhere on either continent for two weeks when there at still many other locations that are more popular among Japanese tourists that they would want to visit instead, from the list that was posted earlier neither Africa or South America are on the list of priorities for Japanese people to go to.

My point was less that Africa is just mud huts and genocide (which it is) and more that the Jappos probably won't consider doing an African region, mostly because of the mud huts and genocide. Say what you will about South America, but adobe is a much better building material and they do gang wars instead of genocide and apartheid, so the Japs would do that before Africa.

It's interesting that genwunners are beginning to warm up to generation 2. Many complaints of genwunners was that they only liked KANTOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Or I could be wrong and they always were at least okay with generation 2 existing, and it was just a big generalization made about genwunners back in the day.

The first two generations I think were relatively close to each other in terms of release, at least in the States, but both came out when Pokémon's popularity was a cultural phenomenon and then there was Togepi's introduction in the anime, so Johto has always been fresh in a lot of genwunners' minds. G/S/C having Kanto post-game (as well as having the Johto region be included in the OG Pokémon series for anime-only fans who eventually fucked off after Misty left) may have helped.

Johto's always had its share of criticism, though, and they're not unfounded. Gen I at least had exploitable glitches and bugs that captured the imaginations of kids everywhere, Johto's only commonly known glitch is, what, the cloning glitch? I know it has its own share of issues, but Missingno. was rather special.
