is gundam worth getting into? Call me autistic but after watching Rerez do a video about a gundam game, that Char guy is pretty cute from the anime. However gundam is fucking large and I'm intimidated where would a newbie start???
I would definitely say it's worth getting into, but I'm heavily biased on the matter since I'm a huge fan of it. If you're up for old animation I'd definitely recommend starting with the original series instead of the movies. Original series is important in setting the ground work for what's happening in later series, after which you can watch stuff like War in the Pocket, 08th MS Team, Thunderbolt, and Stardust Memories; All those take place between 0079 and Zeta.

Early UC is best watched in Chronological order with Unicorn as the soft endpoint: 0079 (series) -> OVA series mentioned above -> Zeta (series) -> ZZ (arguably skip-able, but you'll miss out on some subplots in Unicorn) -> Char's Counter Attack -> Unicorn.

After watching all that, which is a lot, you've basically watched enough that you can jump wherever in the UC timeline. If you really can't get over the old animation (or just want a treat after going through the old 0079) I'd recommend Gundam the Origin which is a reinterpretation of 0079 that gives a lot more focus to Char who you showed interest in. AU stuff is also just watch what you think looks interesting, would recommend Gundam 00 personally. There's also G-Reco which had Tomino returning to head a Gundam series after a long time, it's pretty dense and I'd say try marathoning it or it'll get confusing, but what I've watched of it has been very enjoyable.
Gundam Seed is a conundrum. The first series is good, great even. Gundam Seed Destiny is straight trash though and should be avoided like the plague. The series has technically never been finished due to the main writer, the showrunner's wife, getting sick and later freaking DYING, which means that the series will probably never be finished.
I remember there was news about the Gundam Seed movie that was shelved being worked on from the lead singer of TM Revolution during the 40th anniversary of the first series back in 2019. The script for it was already reportedly finished before she passed, so they do have something to work off.
00 Gundam starts strong in the first season, goes completely off the rails in the second when Magic Pixie Dust literally starts solving everything.
I honestly love the second season even if it's sillier than the first one, so many great moments and Ribbons was a really fun villain with how much of his motivation seemed driven by fucking with Setsuna. It was also great to see the meister team grow actually close by the end of the series compared to the first season. Also, Mr. Bushido is such a fun char clone. I even enjoyed the movie which was even sillier.

I also love the fact that Setsuna's dub VA is the same guy that did Amuro's voice, most of the old gundam dubs have VA crossover due to them mostly being done in Canada and I have to say that a bunch of those dubs are really great.

Gotta ask about this.

Lucky Star. I'm familiar with it with the theme song and whatnot. I've heard there's millions of references. Bluray is cheap too. I was curious as to if it's good. I am a fan of Azumanga Daioh slice of life type stuff fwiw.

I read ANN review of the bluray and it was extremely negative.....it seems extremely divisive.

I thought lucky star was pretty funny when I was a teen but watching it now is strange. Some things are funny but a lot of it is super boring. It's girls talking: the anime.

I think it was a lot of people’s “gateway anime”. How much you enjoy it depends on how much you like slice of life 4koma-style anime and such. It’s not too overly wacky or dramatic or anything, but still pretty good.

I've been sort of normie when watching it and I liked it. It's basically cute girls doing cute things Otaku edition. It has some fun poking at anime tropes. Also can't forget Konata singing cha la head cha la.

It is. Watch the 0079 Trilogy movies first since it's the best possible introduction although if you have time than watching the original TV version is just as good. Then watch Zeta Gundam (ZZ Gundam is good but skippable, do not watch the Zeta Gundam movies) and the Char's Counterattack movie because that's pretty much the core of the franchise. After that just watch whatever you find interesting although production order is always good.

I'd also go with War in the Pocket, because it is depressing.

It's dated itself with references up to the mid-2000s and of the otaku culture at the time, which is why it's hard for newer anime fans to get into. If you're familiar with anime and the con scene up to 2006 (although the Comiket episode is still true to this day) and can watch girls talk about food for several minutes without falling asleep, you should be fine (especially after episode five). Just don't binge it.

Daily Lives of High School Boys is funnier, though.

What the fuck happened with the english dub of asobase asobi? Are they waiting for season 2 to put it out?

I want my fucking blu-rays.

Finally caught up with Season 2 of Konosuba. Liked the first half, second half not so much (though it may just be because I found the cultists just as annoying and grating as the characters did).

I did watch the dub for this season because I had it on while doing some other stuff.. and man is Megumin miscast, her English VA sounds way too mature. Other than that and some occasional cringey “hip” translations, the dub’s not bad.

I’ve watched the first three episodes of Cop & Craft and I’ve been really enjoying it so far. I love noir-esque detective stories, both hard boiled and buddy cop, and pairing it with some urban fantasy is cool.

It seems to be going in a way that makes it look like it’s starting to try to soften the characters a bit, which I worry about. I like a bit of sharpness.

Also, there’s something about the music that seems really familiar, but I can’t figure out why.

Yeah it’s gonna be down for a few weeks. Need to figure out a good place to read for now cause I jumped ship from mangarocks for mangandex year ago and have all my bookmarks on dex now. At least some of the scanners have discord so I can keep updated on their scans but gonna Be a bitch to keep updated on the ones I don’t remember.

Why the fuck is Crunchyroll still paying celebrities to make reaction videos to watching anime?

I just want them to start heavily promoting Fate like their corporate masters are intending so I can watch shit really hit the fan.
