I think I see what you're getting at. There's a visceral reaction to this stuff online; whenever someone posts a think piece about 'identity'. (As actors are prone to do. Jim Carrey is an example.)

At best, it's seen as affluenza. An affliction of the idle rich.

Which isn't entirely wrong: If you're breaking your back working two jobs, you don't have time to ponder the meaning of it all. I also wonder if Americans in general suffer from it; careening from one "identity" to another. It definitely seems prevalent now. You can blame mass media, atomization, decline of religion, maybe a loss of collective purpose. (Helping your neighbor is apostasy. And now, we don't even have "world police" to fall back on.)

I think it stops (or damn near) testosterone/estrogen production. Which puts a hold on puberty, and is useful if you have a cancer that causes excess hormone production.
Edit - or the treatment causes it, I guess.

Yep. The worst part is that using Lupron for delaying puberty in dysphoric children is actually an off-label treatment and even when it is used for it's intended purpose by adults (prostate cancer, etc.), it's still dangerous.
