From the studies I've seen, and please don't quote me on this, but life is pure hell after you start hormone treatment and therapy. Like it actually just destroys you for like a year. And doctors often don't do followup or assign a therapist to help you through it. I knew someone I think was 14 that got assigned HRT with no oversight and became actually psychotic because of it and they had no help. Just given the HRT and tossed into the wild.

Once people have a taste of that righteousness (and especially, a taste of the unearned benefits such as donations, preferential treatment, etc) they don't want to give it up. It's addictive. I think that a lot of these movements had a good point -- initially. But then that point is achieved and now they look for something else to grab, and it only spirals further into unreasonableness. To begin with, the troon got granted medical leave to go to a Thai butcher. He seemed to believe getting a medical leave means his transition was greenlit by the military, and once he returned, he would be able to serve in the female forces (which is basically considered a separate branch altogether and largely ignored).
Instead, his SRS results were classified as a Tier 3 disability and made him unfit for service. Apparently he was warned about this possibility prior to his trip.
Compulsory national service is a controversial and deeply unliked aspect in Korea and some men actively self harm to get out of service. Naturally, Tier 3 is rather high, it is the equivalent of missing a limb or severe depression that might trigger a Full Metal Jacket reenactment.
So, nothing got solved.
