I feel worn out by the Pokemon series. The Arceus game could've been an amazing trailer yet they leave in the crap fps issues. After SwSh, I don't trust GF to make a competent Pokemon game.

I do look forward to New Pokemon Snap though. I should just stick with 3rd party made Pokemon games at this point.
I’ll paraphrase something I said in the SBFP thread. SwSh looked like a ps2 game most of the time, ran poorly, and was so buggy that it was apparently bricking some consoles; and this was in a game that mostly followed the classic series template to the letter. BotW was an incredibly ambitious game that was made with emergent gameplay and a sense of discovery in mind; with an extremely large team and long-ass production cycle that bordered on development hell. I distinctly remember climbing on top of one of the 3 labyrinths and just jumping over to the shrine in the middle because I happened to cook a bunch of stamina food beforehand; and breaking one of the guroscope shrines when I realized the other side of the plane you were supposed to manipilate the ball through was completely flat. In light of Sword and Shield I’m reasonably sure they lack the skill and manpower to pull off what Legends seems to be promissing. I’m absolutely sure they haven’t had the time.

Gamefreak has never had coding wizards on staff. Reminder that they were struggling with GBC hardware while developing Gold and Silver and it wasn't till Satoru Iwata fixed the code himself that they got anything good running (he's also the reason there was enough space for Kanto). You would think either them or Nintendo would get another developer to help make games that don't run like hot garbage.

Speaking of which, do we even know how long this has been under development?

I feel like the sword and shield problems hold much better than a literally 20 year old game's problems. And there's VASTLY more staff on now that there were during the GS era.

IIRC, Sword and Shield was made by the B team, right?

Absolute longest this game would have been in development is 4-5 years - as that's when BotW came out. I have no doubt that Legends is inspired by BotW.

Nope, but my gut says not very long or Sword and Shield came out in the state they did because a lot of resources were being silhoned to this.
...One theory, here.

Maybe they were planning to make DP more open world, but decided to go for a safer option halfway through (in response to SwSh backlash?) and turned to ILCA? Then the open world project was allowed to be more free and experimental, resulting in Legends.

That'd help explain why this is the first spinoff game explicitly set in an existing region. It was meant to be a mainline, and they built sinnoh itself, but they pivoted midway through.

I would agree with this but it'd be pretty radical to make a game that previously wasn't open-world one that is, they could have easily just followed the originals exactly but with 3D assets instead (GameFreak aren't exactly known for their innovation).

That's what the remake is gonna be, Legends is likely just them recycling Sword&Shield's assets and development tools for another quick but major game to release, they seem to be trying to release either a main-line series game every year or a near main-line game like the Let's Go games.

They'll probably be some recycled assets in Legends, but with the remakes I feel like the only thing getting recycled will be the pokemon models. It's really too early to tell at the moment especially since BDSP is being worked on by a different company.

The game is probably just the town and a few rolling hills at the moment. I doubt it's anywhere near being content complete.

So I just saw Unite's footage and god it's just Pokémon rumble but shit isn't it?
This is what we gave up spin offs for pokebros

Got a mirror? Video went private.

Kinda sucks that you have to archive literally everything anymore. Even the most innocuous videos get scrubbed.
I don't have an archive of the video, but I do have a video of some greninja gameplay:

I have the video downloaded but the file's too big for me to post.

Edit: I can do English I swear.

... I just remembered that one book from the Canalave library that more or less said pokephilia used to be normalized in the canon universe in the original Japanese version. 1) awful. thought i repressed that trivia. 2) i wonder if they're going to scrap that line in the remakes...? Hopefully so.

No, it must stay. For reasons...
