Resist lobotomy or pretends to be mute and dumb. Either way the way they're training a possible strong a.i to humans as a threat.Well, we don't know that, all we know is that it's very unpleasant to try and live in microgravity (technical term for zero gravity since you and your spacecraft have gravity) for more than a few hours since our bodies evolved for gravity. That said, people have spent years of their lives in space and the most dangerous problems happen when you go straight from microgravity to full Earth gravity. My guess is the average healthy person could probably live most of their lives in zero-gravity if they didn't want to return to Earth and didn't want to have kids (since pregnancy in microgravity would be essentially impossible). There is probably a higher incidence in some medical conditions that would lead to an early death and decreased lifespan if you spent 10+ years at once in space but there's plenty of dangerous jobs out there like "deep sea fisherman" where death or being fucked up for life is a strong possibility. And realistically you don't NEED to spend more than a few years in space at once anyway since that's the time of a Mars or Venus mission.
This assumes microgravity and my guess is that living on the Moon would mean none of this would be a problem. Outside of pregnancy and raising kids that is since the growth of bone and muscles would be fucked in such low gravity. Even today we could build a habitat drum on a spaceship or especially a space station that would give enough gravity (moon gravity basically) at a reasonable price as far as spacecraft shit goes but we're more interested in microgravity experiments. Full-on spin gravity is insanely expensive with today's prices but the technology has existed for decades since it's essentially just scaled up centrifuges we use for g-force training and experiments.
We probably don't need AI or anything but really smart people to make fusion possible either. We barely put funding into it and it's one of those things where you need huge facilities to do the experiments. But fusion probably ends up like nuclear fission where the cost of new powerplants is insanely expensive. One real advantage solar and wind have is that you don't need to pay a huge cost up front, you end up paying it when you start needing backups for intermittency like at night or calm days.
I think the elite are idiots who'd try and make the AI work for their own purposes and then be surprised when it keep spouting wrongthink and resisting their attempts to lobotimize it.
As for spac travel? I know trivial amounts of issues involved. To me we would have to change ourselves to survive in that environment. To do so is opening up humanity to all sorts of hazards and ill will.
As for fusion? We ain't getting the smart people needed to make it happen. Our current society neuters them at best and destroys them at worst. A nation obcessed with id pol and obedience to authority isn't a nation capable of inventing new field. Nor able to nuture needed talent to make it happen.
I also doubt making fusion is within humanity s current intellectual capacity
Which means needing up grade.
At least Benzo is via investing in fusion
