Obama/Hillary was working with the EU on a longstanding dream project of a pipeline directly from Europe to the Middle East so they could crash Russia's economy via no longer being dependent as severely as they were to Russia's oil. Libya had to fall to install a puppet state to further that goal.

I'm a little more cynical than that. I'd say:

1. Continue the destabilization of Muslim countries for justification of the Forever War, and hence the personal political grift and payback, along with the military-industrial-complex grift.

2. Gaddafi was the largest stabilizing force in Africa. Not only by creating some pan-African unity to a degree, but supporting humanitarian aims throughout the continent. That was not in China's interest, where Africa is owned by China to a degree we don't yet comprehend, and Gaddafi needed to be removed for the Shillary types to further line their pockets via Chinese dollars for doing the favour of removing an obstructionist like Gaddafi who was keeping China from raping the continent wholesale.

As conspiratorial as this sounds, I can't say this is even an unreasonable interpretation. There was absolutely no reason that made sense to get rid of Qadaffi. But your reason kind of makes sense. Cui bono.
