When I heard that Nickelodeon’s Blues Clues and You acknowledged the LGBTQ community, I thought they had done it in a sly way. You know, a way where people can feel represented but if the network is asked about LGBTQ representation they can deny it, wave it away, or leave it open to interpretation. *Cough* Korrasami *cough.*

So, I was sure I knew what I was getting into when I looked up the Alphabet Song for Kids that everyone was talking about due to the P being for “Pride.”Oh, how wrong I was.

Nickelodeon didn’t give us LGBTQ representation on the sly. They put it right there in your face and didn’t hold back. They had a large P with the colors of the pride flag. And surrounding it were other flags (starting at the top and going clockwise in the image above) representing the transgender, lesbian, bisexual, nonbinary, genderfluid, intersex, pansexual, and asexual communities. Some of these flags even I didn’t immediately recognize, and if I can learn all of this in my 30s, imagine what a child could do with such knowledge?

Representation changes lives for the better. It’s an opportunity to feel seen, loved, and acknowledged for who you are. That’s why it’s so important that Blues Clues and You included “Pride” in their Alphabet Song. Children will now have the knowledge that there is nothing wrong with being part of the LGBTQ community. They will go, “Hey, if Blue and Josh accept people for who they are, then maybe I can accept myself or my friend for who they are.”

Okay, maybe kids wouldn’t say it in this exact manner because they’re kids, but the sentiment stands.

Watching the Alphabet Song for Kids also made me reflect on what seeing this kind of representation would’ve done for me as a kid. It would’ve helped get rid of years of self-loathing, confusion, and shame for loving who I love in the way I choose to. It also would’ve made me hide less than I did when it came to my sexuality. Because everyone watched Blues Clues at my age, and if you said anything against her or Steve, you were looked at with horror, and I’m not the only one self reflecting on what this representation means to them as an adult.

Thank you so much! Seeing the pansexual pride flag makes me feel so valid. I’m sobbing. Blues Clues will forever hold my heart. I’ve loved it ever since I was little because of how progressive and inclusive it was then, and I’ll forever love it. Thank you. 💖😭💖

if you told me i would be crying to a blues clues video when i was 21 i probably wouldn’t have been surprised but if you told me it was because they had P stand for Pride and showed like all the flags I would have definitely been a little shocked.

As someone who was obsessed with blues clues as a kid (i actually cited it as my dream job when i was like 6 which wow how does that even work) the pride shoutout is so amazing!!!

As someone who grew up watching blues clues as a kid, seeing this especially for me the pride one? Honestly I’m almost in tears this means SO much. Blues clues was arguably one of the very few positives in my childhood and seeing this now just makes my heart hurt in a good way https://t.co/7S3YMedMWg

Blues Clues was my JAM when I was a kid, and this warms my heart
There are a lot of underrepresented pride flags here. Right smack in the middle of an important song in a kids show.
I really wish I had stuff like this as a kid. Maybe I wouldn’t have questioned myself for so long https://t.co/tzpzzY45xapic.twitter.com/NE01a80jR0

Having Blues Clues make me cry today was not on the agenda. I loved this show so much growing up, having that Pride bit made the child in me very excitedly say “THAT’S MEEE!!!!” 😭 https://t.co/0ZOzcxEECP

They started to drop the subtlety act a long time ago:
It's always been obvious, what they were doing, but those who pointed it out were accused of being paranoid, bigoted, religious fanatics.

No. What you want is to be acknowledged and praised for what you are, not who you are. There's a key difference. The former encourages people to have trained preconceptions on how to engage you based off one singular attribute you have or a label you might carry, the latter involves actually engaging you as an individual in order to understand what makes you tick. We have a word for the former: Prejudice.

I remember being a little kid and thinking Blues Clues was gay as fuck. Same thing with Little Bear and Rupert if anyone remembers those shows. All gay as fuck.

Reminder that this whole article was written because in a song about the alphabet, the term pride was used for the letter P and to represent pride they flashed up the rainbow flag and a bunch of other flags. They do not go into it, discuss what those flags mean, or make mention of sexuality.

And these people feel emotionally validated because of 2 seconds of a 3 minute video. These people are weak, but a kind of weakness where a disintegrating fetus is stronger than they are.
The only flag I have a problem with is the rainbow flag with the black and brown stripe... when the fuck was gay pride ever about race? Even worse, this flag originated from my native Philadelphia. Shameful.

I have the thought that they did this to cater to the original audience that has "grown up." A bunch of adults feel validated over a children's cartoon of all things.

Children’s cartoons for validation are the future. Steven Universe walked so Blue’s Clues could run.

why can't these people let children be children instead of turning them into lil versions of their own dementias insanity?

Remember when they made fun of Jerry Falwell for thinking Teletubbies was gay propaganda?

Don't forget Franklin, I remember there were a lot of really "wholesome" and saccharine kid's show like that in the 90s and while I didn't hate them and would still watch them sometimes, I did think they were lame, what I really liked was cartoons like Batman TAS or edgy comedy series like Rocko's Modern Life.

It's weird how 90s culture was bifurcated that way, with really edgy shit coexisting alongside really saccharine shit, it's sad that in the long term edgy lost and saccharine won.

>Lilo & Stitch lover

NO. NO. YOU BACK AWAY RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE. DON'T YOU DARE GET YOUR WOKE TENTACLES INVOLVED WITH L&S, I WILL LITERALLY CUT YOU.

......A-hem.....now that that's over, in regards to the Blue's Clues reboot - I honestly half expected it at this point. It's doubly sad for me because I (like a lot of other late Milennials/early Zoomers) grew up on the original with Steve and Joe, and to see it gutted for woke propaganda like this is.... (:_(. But indoctrinating kids, like everything, is OK when the left does it!

Stop trying to shoehorn sexuality into shows for toddlers you sick fucks. They don't care about that shit nor should they until puberty strikes and holy fuck you think that's a confusing time for normal kids raised by sane parents? Imagine what it's going to be like for children raised from the cradle by woke retards, being told there's 30 different genders and 200 different sexual orientations.

Imagine being so pathetic and weak that you need a children's show aimed at 4 year olds to validate your existence.

They never grew up. At all.
