‘Mandalorian’ Star Gina Carano Under Fire for Controversial Social Media Posts​

Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune on both seasons of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian,” garnered backlash on social media Wednesday after sharing several controversial posts on her Instagram story.

Carano shared the posts on her story late Tuesday night. One of the posts she shared compared today’s divided political climate to Nazi Germany.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” the post, which was originally made on a different Instagram account, read.

Another photo on Carano’s story featured a person with several cloth masks covering their entire face and head. The caption said “Meanwhile in California.”

Both posts were removed from Carano’s Instagram story Wednesday afternoon. Other posts, including a quote saying “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is fucking wild” and one saying “Jeff Epstein didn’t kill himself,” remained.

Many people on Twitter began using the hashtag #FireGinaCarano, tagging accounts for Disney, Disney Plus, “Star Wars” and Lucasfilm and requesting that Carano be dropped from “The Mandalorian.”

Carano has courted social media controversy before, previously sharing misinformation about mask wearing and voter fraud. In November 2020, she made light of people including their preferred pronouns on social media by adding “beep/bop/boop” to her Twitter bio, which many fans called out as transphobic. Carano later removed the words after she said she spoke to her “Mandalorian” co-star Pedro Pascal. “He helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & [support] freedom to choose,” she wrote at the time.

Representatives for Carano and Disney did not respond to Variety’s request for comment.

It was cool that she pissed off sjw Twitter fags but was anyone really looking forward to her character being the next big thing? I saw people hyping her up like she was going to get her own show and be the WoMandalorian and it was incredibly gay.

agreed, but from the people i've had to interact with over the past five years I find the idea that people will just stop being consoomers very very optimistic.

Saying move on to something else isn't the answer. Finding another franchise becomes harder and harder to do when the Mouse has bought up a lot of other smaller properties to expand their portfolio. Their fingers are in the pies of so much modern media that it's hard to find other entertainment unless you have an interest in a particular genre that Disney would have limited to no interest in, which there's no guarantee of either as they may just add a subsidiary if the they see money in it.

This isn't even about the actress or SW at the end of the day, it's just another example of an ever growing problem that will only be resolved when the consumers finally get tired and stop supporting all media companies who're trying to control the pop culture narratives to push their personal propaganda as 'the right way'. The problem being discussed here is an overarching one across all media, which is the hypocrisy of treatment in regards to opinions and viewpoints, the overreach given to twitter users, the desire to control popular culture and force PC Diversity bullshit on others, cancel culture, attempts to weaponize the conflation of a ' Well this person works for your company, so their views are your views', etc.

i'd say get a life and stop obsessing over pop culture and franchises in general but people get very defensive when i say that because they have typically spent their whole lives obsessing over the shit.

the idea is that hopefully after many failed attempts at finding some new franchise to obsess over they will realize how pathetic obsessing over pop culture and corporate franchises actually is.
 
New strategy for any prominent public figure: never use social media, ever.

Corporations and technocrats control discourse now, not rule of law. Your job and likely your safety are no longer secure when espousing any kind of opinion, no matter how moderate, no matter how rational. If you want a career, keep the fuck away from social media at all costs, and scrub as much of your internet history as you possibly can, because the slightest sin may damn you in the eyes of modernity.
 
Somewhere, George Lucas is laughing at his good fortune of cashing out on Star Wars right before wokeism went into full gear and ruined everything. The new SW are trash, worse than the prequel trilogy, and between this and Giancarlo Esposito talking about how Baby Yoda is queer/genderfluid and Mark Hamill being a HEY LIL DONNIE tier Trump deranged boomer it is really retarded how fucking Star Wars has become a battlefield for leftist politics.

Also, obviously I don't think she should have been fired for this, but anyone who is considering writing a "______ is JUST like the Holocaust" post, especially a public figure, needs to pause for a sec and really consider how the SJW masses that have infested social media will react to it.

Actors, news anchors, media people in general are only allowed to read off the script provided to them, she went off script. She got fired.

People are delusional if they think anyone in hollywood or media is allowed to have a real opinion, they get a sheet of paper with approves lines and that's that.

I agree. Only a very few have survived going off script. But most of time is when they get older do than become more vocal.

I haven't seen any Disney Star Wars shit since ... when was Rogue One? And I've never subscribed to Disney Plus. I wish I could give Disney less than what I do, but there's no way to give them less than zero.

I did just acquire the limited edition DVDs with the laserdisc masters. I'm going to upscale them and make my own un-special edition. I know the OT.com community has already done that, but like a Jedi building his own lightsaber by meditating over a crystal that can only be found on one planet that was blessed by a Sith Lord, this edit will be mine.
