‘Mandalorian’ Star Gina Carano Under Fire for Controversial Social Media Posts

Gina Carano

Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune on both seasons of Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian,” garnered backlash on social media Wednesday after sharing several controversial posts on her Instagram story.

Carano shared the posts on her story late Tuesday night. One of the posts she shared compared today’s divided political climate to Nazi Germany.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” the post, which was originally made on a different Instagram account, read.

Another photo on Carano’s story featured a person with several cloth masks covering their entire face and head. The caption said “Meanwhile in California.”

Both posts were removed from Carano’s Instagram story Wednesday afternoon. Other posts, including a quote saying “Expecting everyone you encounter to agree with every belief or view you hold is fucking wild” and one saying “Jeff Epstein didn’t kill himself,” remained.

Many people on Twitter began using the hashtag #FireGinaCarano, tagging accounts for Disney, Disney Plus, “Star Wars” and Lucasfilm and requesting that Carano be dropped from “The Mandalorian.”

Carano has courted social media controversy before, previously sharing misinformation about mask wearing and voter fraud. In November 2020, she made light of people including their preferred pronouns on social media by adding “beep/bop/boop” to her Twitter bio, which many fans called out as transphobic. Carano later removed the words after she said she spoke to her “Mandalorian” co-star Pedro Pascal. “He helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & [support] freedom to choose,” she wrote at the time.

Representatives for Carano and Disney did not respond to Variety’s request for comment.

Ended up finding this thread after hearing the news not on Google but because of someone screeching in a Discord server.

Needless to say, she’s got people pissed off.

I was expecting literal "gas the Jews, race war now" but she got cancelled over what can at worst be described as comments in poor taste. What a crazy world we live in.

Boyega was basically inciting a riot in London last summer in the middle of a pandemic and all he got was asspats for being so stunning and brave. Guess its not what you do but which side you support that matters.

I dont feel bad about torrenting the mandalorian now, eat a dick Disney.

Her political comparison is right though. What she’s saying is that creating a climate where a group is demonised simply by membership and where that demonisation is openly encouraged by power structures is a necessary condition for genocide.
One of the most anti SJW people I know fled Sarajevo during the war, and saw people she’d lived in the same apartment block as all her life kill each other, and get each other disappeared. More than the constant danger from shells, this has fucked her up for life and she is unable to trust anyone.
This climate of ‘open season on group x for their beliefs/characteristics’ is how it started. Whether that’s ending up on cattle cars, in a dungeon in the balkans, banned from payment providers or fired from your job for a banal support of a sitting president isn’t the point. The point is that the mechanism of dehumanisation is common to all purges. She’s right.
Also fuck pronouns. I like Gina.

Also what were the other two major franchises? The only one I knew she was working on was star wars.
She had one-off roles in Deadpool and one of the Fast & the Furious movies. Neither were reoccurring roles, they were 5+ years ago, and this person is just full of shit.

I always hate how Pedro can compare Trump supporters to freaking Nazis, yet keeps his job becuase he has the right views.

I fed up hearing about the transgender community being saints. Yet most of them have been proven to be assholes on Twitter.

Is it any consolation that he would probably have been tossed out of a helicopter in his native land had he been around 48 years ago?

The double standard is strong here- Gina gets cancelled for posting an article stating an opinion that republicans are being persecuted, and disney/lucasfilm responds by persecuting republicans like they were jews in 1940 Germany.

You can tell her statements were accurate by the reaction to it, Disney is showing their true colours.

By these standards, Pablo Hidalgo, and some of the writers working on the High Republic project should be ejected from the planet. But that won't happen because those people are part of the right tribe.

That was her point. When the Nazis first started their campaign they started with first dehumanizing Jewish people, than told people to rat on their neighbors if they were listening to media that were critical of the nazi movement ( none-nazi propaganda) and was thinking different than what the Nazi Party were saying. Sounds familiar right.
The Camps were just the last step of a long process that Hitler had planned out. That was her point, people ignore the steps that the Nazi party had planned and just pretend that the Nazis simply automatically through Jewish people in the camps. Hence what she ment by history repeating itself.
You already have president Alzheimer's Biden comparing Cruz and Hawley to Hitler's second in command.

Troons are insane and most are unemployed and have nothing better to do than file complaints all day so I get not crossing them as a public figure but since when have mask weirdos been a protected class?

This is the post that got her fired.

This is exactly what I said above. She is right. especially since Lucasfilm had employee (who still works there) who joked about throwing maga childern in a wood chipper they are legit acting like the nazis did in the beginning of their regime.

I really hate Disney for this. They don't see that their acting exactly how the Nazis did when they first got into power.

i've said it before, i'll say it again

stop. being. invested. in. star wars.

This goes beyond just paying for star wars shit. people need to stop watching, they need to stop interacting, they just need to stop.

find another god damn franchise to obsess over. even hating on star wars at this point is doing disney favors.

Comparing yourself to Jews in Nazi Germany is kinda tasteless tbh

Maybe but I guess the left calling conservatives modern nazis is A-okay, huh?

I have quit the franchise ever since the Last Jedi and have never looked back. Everyone was Fandom Menace this, Fandom Menace that, then the mandalorian happens and suddenly everyone is sucking Disney's dick again. NOW that they screw over (at least majorly, they were doing at least minorly), now everyone is back at wanting to hate on SW and Disney, now going for this dumb ass #canceldisney+ or some bullshit like that.

Let me tell you a secret, that # wont change shit. People think it sucks? Yeah but after the controversity wore off, and it will, people will just return to Disney + because its far too convenient to have all of that access at once. People will almost always choose comfort and convenience over integrity and dignity.

I dont hate SW anymore (well, maybe a TINY bit but not much), I just simply dont care anymore and when I see shit like this happening, Im obviously not surprised. I have seen how this works and given how Gina was, I knew her days were counted.

The Mandalorian isnt going to "save" SW, no one can. George Lucas's final "fuck you" to us, the pricks that picked on him for years for daring to make the prequels, was to sell it to Disney so we feel what actual corporate induced suffering and degeneracy is like.

It's not just Star Wars though, it's Disney et all.

Saying move on to something else isn't the answer. Finding another franchise becomes harder and harder to do when the Mouse has bought up a lot of other smaller properties to expand their portfolio. Their fingers are in the pies of so much modern media that it's hard to find other entertainment unless you have an interest in a particular genre that Disney would have limited to no interest in, which there's no guarantee of either as they may just add a subsidiary if the they see money in it.

This isn't even about the actress or SW at the end of the day, it's just another example of an ever growing problem that will only be resolved when the consumers finally get tired and stop supporting all media companies who're trying to control the pop culture narratives to push their personal propaganda as 'the right way'. The problem being discussed here is an overarching one across all media, which is the hypocrisy of treatment in regards to opinions and viewpoints, the overreach given to twitter users, the desire to control popular culture and force PC Diversity bullshit on others, cancel culture, attempts to weaponize the conflation of a ' Well this person works for your company, so their views are your views', etc.

I think people need stop obsessing over franchises period. Not to say you can’t ever be invested in a franchise but simply that moderation is key.

We’ve seen what happens when you make pop culture your only culture.
