I wouldnt even classify this as a dating sim, despite the core focus of the game being "slam 2 characters together for a date". Its like they looked at popular dating sim structure and decided to do the opposite.

Westerners like taking Japanese concepts and shitting all over them. The reasons why otome games/dating sims are so popular are because the characters are hot, and actually have personalities.

Actually all dating sims are lazy cash grabs because the devs don't want to be bothered adding real gameplay systems and designing 3d environments and characters.
We're to the point now where the art director for many otome games is Google Image Search and a filter.

Full black Malik is lighter than both of them. No one understands how being biracial works. I can see making one of them darker to represent darker skinned biracial people. But it's very variable. Rocky doesn't even look a smidgen Chinese. It's like nobody knows what real people look like. I think there's a lot of asiaboos on the team that like to fantasize that they'd fit right in with the East Asians they gush over. Surprised no character is a darker than space Japanese-Congolese mangaka.
If you were around for maxfag/staminarose/early lolcow farm then you might remember a thread about a girl on DA who made very poorly drawn Hetalia OCs, often on lined loose leaf paper. Many of these were white characters representing African countries like Somalia. She got called out big time for making Somalian Hetalia OCs that looked like Nordics.
Yet the artists here get no flack for drawing black characters and arbitrarily declaring them part Asian without even trying to properly represent the features. And I am going to assume a really bad representation of culture will appear if this game ever gets finished. Yolanda will like Kpop. Rocky will like fried rice or dragons or something. Something stupid and stereotypical in that vein.
Just feels like they are fetishizing East Asia. Why not just make a Chinese or Korean character? Is it because that's not brown enough and East Asians are honorary whites now?
At least Japanese dating sims have usually have cute characters with personality types geared towards a variety of preferences. The characters are designed to be appealing. It's a fantasy. In real life no one wants to deal with a tranny troglodyte that likes to proclaim "Fuck white people" or a mental case who hates marriage yet for some bizarre reason became a marriage counselor. Anyone that does want to date these people is probably worse off than they are and can't attract anyone even remotely normal to begin with.

So I was thinking of how low effort and terrible these memes are. Many of them are just the character art slapped onto stolen tweets. No creativity or originality. So I figured, hey, I'm half Italian. So unlike Dani and her so totally artistic and talented friends I can poke fun at Keaton a bit. It's all in good fun right? I'm picking on the white guy so it's like internalized hate for chipotle mayonnaise. You know, 'cause we Italians are spicy but still in a white people sort of way.
