The budget doesn't matter if you're spending more than you actually have. It comes down to the state's management of that budget. Blue states tend to spend more frivolously and to offset that, they have to raise taxes. But the taxes may be not enough to cover that spending so they end up with a pile of debt. You see why the states with the most debt on @AnaphylacticShock's post shows it's all blue states except Kentucky. Meanwhile the states with the least amount of debt are all red states.Ok? So if I have $200,000 and spend $50,000, I'm in worse shape than the guy who has $25,000 and spends $30,000? Cause they spent less?
