I actually think there will be some sort of backroom deal between the RNC and the DNC so that doesn't happen. I don't think they'll ride the train over the cliff.

Then again they've done exactly that before, so who knows.
Unfortunately for the RNC, they've already one: alienated a supermajority of their voter base and two, they've proven they're too weak willed to get shit done. Even if Trump pulls this off, I'm through with the GOP, and I know for a fact that I'm not alone.

Ok here's a crazy possibility that occurred to me. Suppose DNC and RNC deep insiders collude. They want a centrist neoliberal/neocon/establishment coalition to run things, cheap labor, free trade, sustainable development goals, and no opposition. None of them like Trump or Bernie.

Now the problem they've got is that the electorate basically despises neoliberals and neocons. The Democrats had to rig the primaries to stop Bernie and the RNC failed to do so to stop Trump.

So what they need is a system that will give the establishment candidate an assist over any troublesome outsider on election day. This time it rigged for Biden and against Trump but you could equally well imagine it rigging for a Bush or a Romney and against Bernie.

So what they do is set up a system that allows vote weighting, ie Dominion. They look at the polls and set the weights this time so that Biden would win but it turns out on election day that the polls were just comforting lies the establishment told itself so they ballot stuff.

Now at this point, you can see why anyone sufficiently high up in the Republican establishment came out immediately in favor of the result, despite it being blatantly bogus and not in favor of their party.

What made me think of it was an interesting interview Joel Kotkin did where he said that Jeff Bezos asked why the hell people were supporting either Trump or Bernie and his answer was 'Look in the mirror, Jeff'.

tl;dr - maybe support for Dominion is bipartisan inside the establishment because they know it will only be used against people outside the establishment who'd otherwise win.

Also, this makes me think AA is on to something when he says that Trump supporters need to reach out to Bernie supporters to build an anti-establishment coalition between both left and right populists.

You need to dismantle hyper reality before you can build a cross coalition between factions.

So could this election actually break the country this time? Just curious. I know that people have always say that about elections in the past. But this one is the craziest of modern times.
I mean, its certainly more controversial than 1861, so it certainly has the potential.
On the other hand, I doubt it unless you mean "break" as in "permanently demoralize".

Hearing this. Makes me think of the lord of the rings meme. With Legolas and Gimli.

Gimni "I never thought I would be fighting alongside a elf"
Legoles "How about a friend"
