This tweeter is defending Kevin for completely the wrong reasons. I agree that people need roses not just bread, (otherwise they will go spare) but that is not the issue here. The issue is that Kevin is lying to people, or at best deliberately letting them be misled, about what he wants their money for.

It is actually okay to ask people for funds for frivolous things as long as you state it is for frivolous things so they can prioritise if they want to give to you or not. If they think you add enough value to their Twitter feeds or whatever, people have been known to give for this reason.

But the people who give to Kevin think they're giving to a trans person in need who is going to be homeless or have no electricity or something if they don't chip in.

It is the deception, not what he wants to spend the money on, that is the main issue.

The secondary issue is that these transformers aren't actually roses or self-care to Kevin so there is even less of a point to him buying something frivolous once in a while, because it is *not* once in a while, it is all the goddamn time and it's not self care, it's an addiction. Unlike a nice face cream or a new book or something, he gets no lasting benefit or feel-goodery from it, just chucks it in the corner to gather dust once it's a few hours old and the euphoria of the buying high has worn off.
