huh. I wonder if trans men tend to be girls that had particularly early/shitty puberty. These things came in when I was 10 so I was in no way prepared for the, ahh, attention they bought and I recall wishing that I could do away with them. I never did cause I’m not nuts but it’s an interesting bit of psychology that I wonder if anyone has looked into? I’m pretty sure lots of girls who get early periods feel the same way. Dunno if this happens to all women, or guys for that matter, but adults treated me very differently once my body changed, never mind the comparisons my friends made to celebrities etc, and I can see how all this stuff happening at once could contribute to dysmorphic feelings.

You know, I wonder if this explains all the super tall MTFs. They were the male version of early developers.
I know an ‘MTF’ who was 5’10” in 8th grade, at a school that was 25% Latino and 25% Asian. Wonder if that contributed — feeling awkward and overgrown. I don’t know.

I put MTF in quotation marks because this person isn’t non-passing, they’re non-trying. Aside from the obligatory long greasy hair (which, he ran for a leadership position in a statewide club in high school and all the candidates had to dress up and he still didn’t wash his hair), he does literally nothing. Sports T-shirt and basketball shorts. I live in an area where I see straight guys with earrings or in pastel shorts, and I know plenty of gay guys who go out in public dressed effeminately all the time. So I have to wonder why he makes no bother at all.

Solo poly is basically having a bunch of casual relationships and never getting serious.

Oh that’s an interesting thought! I do know that puberty has been moving up for decades now so yeah, especially for boys, being 5’10” at 13 at a time when most of his friends still resemble children can be daunting.
we know that society “reads” children of different races as older or younger depending, we know they do it based on sex, pretty sure we do it based on secondary sex characteristics.

If thats the case then a movement mixing body positivity (the proper sort, not fat girls in bikinis) with a social demand that kids be treated appropriately for their age (including raising ages of consent good lord) might but a damper on “trooning out” as it were.

I have another MTF friend who is 6’1”, although I don’t know when he became that tall. And he’s what I would call awkwardly effeminate. Not the confident gay boy who spends a lot of time on his appearance, but the sensitive nerdy guy who naturally sits with his legs crossed and has a lot of female friends.

Thinking about that more, I think a lot of troons are people who are moderately gender non conforming but not in a confident way. Like, I knew a girl in high school who was really butch. She dressed like any urban guy (saggings pants with two pairs of boxers and all), wore a suit to prom, played basketball, and had an attractive girlfriend and lots of other friends. That’s different from being the awkward girl who doesn’t like wearing makeup or revealing dresses but will wear loose skirts.

I mean, first friend sounds like he might just be on the spectrum and watched a bunch of women instead of men, but that would sort itself out as he ages. Not everyone gets the cues straight the first time. I want to say 6’1” isn’t that tall but I live in the land of Eastern Europeans over here so I might be spoiled for height.

I really do think that these are people who got mixed signals. Their parents probably were like “it’s fine if your a boy who likes ballet or a girl who likes cars” but then they probably get teased for being faggots, and they know they aren’t gay, so then they find this cult that convinces them that they are the opposite sex instead of just being a dude who likes some girly shit.

I, a woman, have talked about this subject with some of my gay friends, and the universal complaint they have tends to be that Yaoi is basically a strictly heterosexual dynamic applied to two nominally male characters. One character is blatantly feminized and relegated to the gender role of a 50's housewife.
