Wikipedia is about being neutral on all accounts, they do not hide facts about events or people.

Unless I'm looking at the wrong Wikipedia Article's there is no mention that people can censor their birth names. The possible reasons why these names do not appear is because there is no verification on their birthnames or there is no necessity to do so.

I completely agree. Self-determination is deciding what you should do or be. Respect is when others acknowledge and accept those decisions as legitimate.

[F]or terms relating to gender identity [...], Wikipedia favors self-designation, even when usage by reliable sources indicates otherwise. Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns (for example "man/woman", "waiter/waitress", "chairman/chairwoman") that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life, unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise.

Names are gendered nouns.

I don't think Cox is a lolcow, unless we're going to say every dumb ass celebrity is, but chimping out because people are making fun of trannies is dumb.
 
Okay, I admit it. There's a lot of ridiculousness that entails being offended just because your real name is in some Wikipedia article and you keep trying to fucking edit it because they have a fact about what your real name is. That'd be almost like someone like Jon Stewart getting upset because their Wikipedia article has the name Jon Leibowitz in it. I wasn't being entirely serious back there, but I just wanted to know if there was more to this cow than just that but I can fully see how she might be of further interest if she produces more content in the future. And I've seen bits and pieces of Orange is the New Black so I'm starting to remember Cox a bit.

I love the new "pronouns" section. Anyway, yeah, I posted in the old thread wondering why it was featured when everyone was saying about how Cox wasn't a lolcow. That being said, I can see where OP is coming from with this. While Cox does certainly seem more functional than, say, Chris, he's just as narcissistic, stupid, and paranoid it seems.

Cox has been touring college campuses lately giving talks about being transgender, which is basically "look at me and my struggles. Praise me."

If she comes near your area and you go, you're in for a special treat. The amount of unpassable MtF people I saw in the audience was unfathomable.
 
If Laverne Cox was born Roderick than that information should be available on wikipedia. Period end of story.

Im a strong believer in objective reporting. And I think we can't start changing history because it makes people more comfortable.

Laverne Cox feels that they were always a woman. The fact that he was born Roderick simply highlights, the journey of self discovery from my perspective.

I'll shoot straight with you guys. I don't believe in transexuality. In my mind, Laverne Cox is the alter ego of a man named Roderick. And in my personal unprofessional opinion, I think the worst thing you can do for someone suffering from gender dysphoria is transitioning.


All that being said, Laverne Cox is an inspiration to alot of people and I don't know why she would want to hide her history like that. That's what makes her compelling. Maybe she wasn't born in the body she wanted but she made changes until she got to where she is today.


As far as his lolcow status, I'll reserve my opinion. There's alot of people you guys are calling lolcows that have yet to make me crack a smile. But if other people find them funny it would be pretty prickish of me to spoil the fun.

I will say this, I was reading this thread from jump and while it was somewhat embarrassing at how people chimped out I laughed until I fucking cried reading this shit. Thank you all.

Favoring their self-designation doesn't necessarily entail omission of their previous identity, though, so yours seems like a loose interpretation of that policy. I can think of three notable transwomen who have their former names in their articles, and given that Chelsea Manning's birthname survived the edit wars that followed her coming out, Laverne Cox's case seems pretty unique.

That said, I don't know what else to expect from Laverne Cox as a lolcow. I doubt that trolls can have that much access to him.
