He recently posted a picture posing with a pistol that appears to be real at a cursory glance. Would that in and of itself be enough for the GAL considering he's going through a messy divorce, two custody battles, and is facing a DV charge all at the same time? Especially if Megan took it as a threat.

That's so recent that I doubt it is what caused this, but behavior like this in public, where he knows people are watching him, is so utterly nuts that it's probable he's been doing utterly crazy shit we don't even know about and that this insane behavior is what is ending up in court.

I wouldn't be shocked if the GAL interpreted the search history sharing in the same way I did - as a thinly-veiled threat that he is still watching them and monitoring them even though they don't want him in their life. This is after he beat their mom and two other women, including holding one of them captive via immigration status. It's really fucking creepy, and a mentally sound parent does not do any of the shit Lowtax has done.
