Man, tell me about it, i played Pokemon Platinum right after Pokemon Diamond, despite i didn't even like Diamond in the first place, but, a lot of people all over the internet kept sucking Platinum's dick by saying how much of masterpiece it was, and to me, it wasn't, i had to traverse Sinnoh with two HM slaves twice. After finishing Platinum. i didn't want to play a Pokemon game for nearly a year.
I know lots of people like to rag on Unova being linear and the map bring a circle but after slogging through Gen IV it was a massive breath of fresh air not needing so many HMs to progress through the region. I am all for exploration and less linearity but Sinnoh was not fun to explore.

Slowking becomes Poison/Psychic which is kind of cool.

So did it become a Alchemist rather than a intelligent psychic then? That's the impression I get from it having an ability called "curious medicine".

Although, I do get gypsy witch vibes from it.

Edit: Also, galarian slowbro is poison psychic. That's kinda the thing between the two of them. They have different base stats, but share the same typing.

Literally all that changes between the two is that their defensive stats swap and like, a couple moves. When you actually look at the two of them closely it's surprising just how pointless Slowking looks aside from, what, learning Nasty Plot and Power Gem? And even then Bro gets the latter now through TR. Being a lot harder to acquire certainly doesn't help either. There's also the fact that Slowking didn't get a mega while Bro did, which is its own tangent of how some counterparts both got megas but others didn't (Gardevoir/Gallade, Sharpedo/Camerupt, but Beedrill and not Butterfree, Glalie but not Froslass, ect.).

Anyway though, going off of G-Slowbro it could be inferred that unlike Bro equalizing offensive stats at the cost of defenses, King could equalize defenses while sacrificing offensive presence.

Is the defog on entering something that hits both? If so..that might be the strongest enter effect in the game.

Edit : That video was pretty cool, the moving shot going from Gym Leader to gym leader to the Champion is something I don't recall ever seeing the Anime use but is an obvious choice.

You're thinking of Haze (Defog removes hazards/terrain and lowers the opponent's evasion). And no it unfortunately only works on your ally, and therefore is useless in singles.

From the website:

Didn't defog get full on Haze in Gen 5?

Also if it only hits ally stat changes then it is fairly useless.
Defog doesn't affect stat changes.

Considering everything it does at this point it'd easily be the most broken status move in the game by a long shot if it erased stat changes too.

And yeah, real bummer about Curious Medicine. I really wish GF would make it so abilities work differently depending on if you're in a double or single battle. Like say Healer effectively becomes Shed Skin in a single battle instead of being completely useless.

Well Frankly GF only cares about Double Battles, the "OFFICIAL" tm format is 4v4 Double battles, it is pretty clear they give no crap to anything outside of that.

At the same time, they weirdly threw singles players a bone for once this gen out of the blue, such as Heavy-Duty Boots (grants immunity to entry hazards) and the buff to Rapid Spin (power raised by 30 and boosts speed). Both of these don't factor into doubles at all as hazards are almost never used there.

But yeah, the constant pandering to doubles otherwise is extremely annoying.

It wouldn't even be as bad if the main game actually utilized double battles more. At least then, the double battle exclusive moves and abilities don't feel as pointless.

If only the games had HALF this soul!

Finally watched it, but it doesn't make me hyped or feel nostalgic. Like it's great animation (Bones should do more projects for Pokémon tbh) and the choice of making it like a film is brilliant, but it's super flashy and everything moves around too fast to really take in. Yeah, there's 20+ years of references to cram in and watching it several times helps, but can Pokémon just slow down for one second, holy Arceus.

Flashy animation and colors are all people take away from anime these days, and that just bugs me. It's cool to see some of the franchise's famous scenes, but there's not enough time for it to soak in and it doesn't have the impact that it should have the first time around. I shouldn't have to watch it two or three times to know what I'm even looking at while letting the music wash over me. Only thing it got right when it came to that was showing the (rotoscoped???) train tracks scene from Stand By Me.

I’m guessing lore-wise is Galarian Slowking is what happens when the Shellder the latched into its head as a Slowpoke took control.

I mean in the main game you only need to use cut once for story progression and the rest of the HM usage is for items and exploration. So you can ditch that Patrat as soon as your in the second city. Seriously, the only time you need cut is for the Dreamyard, which is like right after the first gym.

I was only mildly impressed tbh. It feels like ever since gen VI they've been doing an awful lot of this "LOOK HOW BIG THIS FRANCHISE IS! LOOK AT HOW MANY REFERENCES WE CAN CRAM INTO A MINUTE LONG VIDEO!" compilation stuff. It's like, yeah, we get it. Pokemon has a long and storied history, how about you put more effort into the now instead of constantly masturbating about the past? Oh right, nostalgia sells...

On another note, it's yet another frustrating tease that they could make a different anime as an alternative to the ever droning Ash "saga" (though not THAT flashy for the whole thing obviously) but just like Origins, Generations, the Galar specials and more, it's just that. A tease of what older fans would like to see that they'll never fully deliver on.

Digimon has been doing the exact same thing for the past five years too. The non stop Adventure pandering and nostalgia bait at the expense of any new material. Yet for some reason Digimon gets a free pass for sucking off Adventure and churning out new Omnimon/Gabumon/Agumon forms.

It’s not just the anime either. A lot of things people complain about in modern Pokemon is also present in modern Digimon. Like the Cyber Sleuth games. They are fantastic but anyone who buys it hoping for an alternative to SwSh is in for a very rude awakening when they are confronted by the insane amount of cutscenes, extreme linearity, no exploration factor, and lack of challenge. If people think SwSh is bad with the cutscenes and getting stopped every five seconds by annoying npcs I would love to see them struggle with the first half of CS.

Long time fan, but I think I'm starting to lose it. I wasn't particularly impressed by gen 8 and I don't think I'll participate in the next gen unless it happens to seriously wow me. If it's anything to make up for it, I'll probably get the upcoming DLC (even though I missed out on the first one). It's cool, but for some reason it isn't hyping me as much as I thought it might've. I've been kind of out of the loop...it's sort of a shame.

I already felt this early on when SwSh was released but on the plus side at least there's hope for the spinoffs to be good even if the main series disappoints. Mystery dungeon DX was a good remake and the upcoming new Snap looks promising.
