While Trump will get a pension, his post-Presidency prospects are up in the air as far as what he can or can't do.
Trump basically burnt his bridges and then some within Hollywood and the media running for President, so a return to the Apprentice is out of the question. Or getting cameos on TV shows and movies. He's also going to be living under the constant threat of retaliation prosecution (the NY State Prosecutors have outright stated they intend to go after him out of spite and malice once he leaves the White House and I don't even thing Biden/Harris saying "don't you dare!" as far as agreeing to squash all retaliation prosecutions against Trump in exchange for getting Trump to leave quietly will stop those fucks and their TDS. Especially since these are people who are still pissy that Obama gave Bush II and his crew a pass/banned retaliation prosecutions against them.
Trump MIGHT use his fortune/resources to finally start his own TV network or alternatively, join Fox News or OAN. The later is more likely, since OAN would probably pay Trump a lot more money than Fox News might be willing to spend, let alone Fox New not wanting to risk Biden and the DNC retaliating to them hiring Trump by doing what they've been wanting to do since Bush got elected: use the power of the federal government to purge Fox News from the airwaves by any means necessary.
But regardless, Trump's future is going to be hampered by the left boycotting/threatening ANYONE that gives him a platform or consulting gig. And social media will probably ban him the second Biden is announced as having won the Presidency just to silence him ASAP, especially if they think he'll fight tooth and claw in the event Biden steals the election. And them banning anyone that is associated with him. Same with the credit processors; I can see them cutting off any outlet/company that hires Trump in any fashion, as far as this sort of financial blackballing ramping up in the event of a Trump loss.
Furthermore, I can see Biden being a petty cunt and breaking longstanding tradition to freeze Trump out of ALL of the perks that come with being President (IE access to all sorts of intelligence information that all former Presidents are allowed access to) in the name of "keeping Trump from selling us out to Putin in spite".

Problem with flat tax is that it benefits only the rich because they have more money than the poor/middle class, who get fucked by the flat tax percentage HARD since they can't a hit and survive if they lose a huge chunk of their income to taxes (whereas it's always a drop in the bucket if you are a rich person paying a flat tax). It's why the ultra rich keep pushing that shit, because it's the ultimate "fuck you" gambit to trick people into thinking you are taxing everyone equally but actually fucking the poor and middle class in the ass with no lube by making them be the ones fronting 1/3 to a full 1/2 of their income to Uncle Sam in practice.
Oliver's a literal anti-life harbringer; Glorious Godfrey's dorky younger brother. He's clearly pushing pro-fascist DNC talking points with a level of spitefulness that not even Bill Maher has spewed these last 6-7 years. Maher's been around the block enough to know you that if you give the left enough rope, that the average Joe American will vote conservatives back into power simply to kick the lunatic left in the teeth then piss on them as they clutch their faces and scream in pain. But the worse thing, is that even if you have people like Steven Crowder debunking his shit, it will never penetrate Oliver's bubble and more to the point, he'll never fucking even take the time to acknowledge people calling him out on his shit, let alone that he's wrong. Note his hate boner for Tucker Carlson; Oliver's INCAPABLE of admitting he's wrong and more to the point, incapable of seeing conservatives as human beings. They are the enemy and unless they submit to the Anti-Life Equation, they might as well die as far as he's concerned and Oliver only references Tucker because his mentor John Stewart has a huge hate boner for Tucker and more to the point, the lunatic left and the DNC hasn't shied away from the fact that deplatforming Tucker is one of their top five priorities. And the only reason why Crowder hasn't been targeted by Oliver is that, in spite of his only standing, he's still small fries compared to Tucker as far as meddling priests that the DNC wants killed with extreme prejudice.
Wealthy liberals are some of the most snobbish people alive and especially towards new money like Trump. Hence their fixation over Trump being "poor" since being outed as being a fake millionaire is the worse thing that could happen to you since it means social disgrace in a way that most social scandals (adultery, divorce, crime) doesn't bring with it.

They seemed like legitimate debts. Some seem left over from developing the property itself, some of them are loans taken out with the buildings as collateral. Some of the debt is mortgages; the Doral golf course has 2 mortgages taken out on it. Trump hasn't paid principle on some of them in years, he may just be cycling them into new debt as they come due.
The value of the properties has taken a major dive, especially since Wu Flu, and double especially for the assets in the New York real estate market, which has crashed hard. That doesn't affect the debt load, just the assets available to pay them off.
Trump has clearly been losing tons of money since he became President. In fact, I'd go so far as to say if he's in financial trouble now, it's largely because of being forced away from business for 4 years. His empire seemed to require constant new developments to keep rolling.
I went through his current positions in a follow-up post. If you gave me that starting position, and I didn't worry about my current living standard or keeping up appearances, I could easily survive the next 5 years of $450 million of debt coming due, without selling a large number of assets. You'd just need to keep operating income steady, bank it all, and use some bridge loans or lines of credit to smooth out the timing of the cash flows.
That may actually be Trump's post-Presidency retirement plan: live in an already-owned property, use the federal pension for living expenses, use the Secret Service budget for travel, and let his holdings coast through the debt payoffs while his kids stabilize the business empire.
As far as growing his wealth, though, I think you're right, he's done there. In fact, picking up a 2nd term may screw him over, if it prevents him and his kids from stabilizing the empire's finances for another 4 years. I don't think he gets out of it all without selling some of the underwater properties.
And I don't see him having the spare cash to start up a news network. Maybe a % stake in one, in exchange for constant on-air gigs. But his cash flow is going to be tight until he's approaching his 80s.

In their minds this inescapably follows, while someone not on that line of thinking winds up saying "So what?" .

Once Trump is out of office the media and others will drop most talk of him except to lament the damage done and how great it is the new Democrat in office is fixing some stuff, but they can't do everything they need because of some new Republican figure. Look back on how Colbert's audience switched from loving how James Comey was fired to hating it, Colbert along with most Dems (and his audience) are just along with hating whatever is hip at that exact moment to hate. Their camp has a very short memory and it won't make sense politically to keep up the steady stream of hate towards a president that isn't even in office.
As he enjoys retiring from the presidency, we may even get some puff pieces remarking on the humorous nature of Trump's love of golf or Barron's soccer playing as he works his way towards college. Trump and his family will have become just funny oddities the way past presidents usually are.

Hopefully the asinine accusations that Trump became President to get richer are dead and gone now that it's abundantly clear to everyone he happily sacrificed much of his wealth, lifestyle, and status to be where he is. I always suspected this was the case and it's why I've always implicitly trusted Trump even when I disagree with him. A person with negative intentions would never sacrifice as greatly for this country as Trump has. What he's doing is a very rare and precious thing in human history. There have not been many cases of an elite turning on their own to help the average joe.
I have to disagree with this greatly. Nothing about the response to Trump during his presidency has been normal, I don't expect it to become normal when he leaves office. Joy Reid last week tweeted something to the effect that when the 'nightmare' is over they'll have to 'do something' about the 'trumpists'. These people will continue their attempts to destroy this man, his family, his friends, and anyone who supported him. They don't just want him out of office, they want to punish him for threatening their power and want to make sure it never happens again.

I don't expect the left in general to return to normal (and maybe I am being insanely optimistic), but I feel like it'd be harder to do a minute hate against a guy not even in office. So I think they'd naturally turn towards treating some other Republican as the new Hitler, mostly because they don't have the attention span to treat a dozen different figures as Hitler at the same time.

I guess with the sheer volume of shit that's been indiscriminately thrown at him, it'll be interesting to see what sticks, if anything. My guess is that in 20 years once the autism has worn off he'll be remembered for being "controversial" and his election serving as an indication the silent majority was getting real fuckin tired of the globohomo shit. I doubt the specific slander (racist, rapist, something something Russia, pee pee tape, etc) will be remembered much, because it's embarrassing the media stooped to that. Probably it'll be noted how much he used Twitter, and how he liked to troll the media because they take the bait every time. Possibly his reputation will be rehabilitated somewhat as soon as CNN and the NPCs decide on the new guy they don't like, kind of like happened with Dubya.

That's because their calls of "is it time to extinguish the Nobel Prize?" fell on deaf ears when Trump got his first nomination. Despite Obama winning a Peace Prize for literally no reason, Joe Public still sees the Nobel Price as a very prestigious institution. So Joe Public saw those headlines and went "wtf, you guys crazy?!". And so the media scurried along to the next nontroversy.
