A fuckton of places use your SSN to verify your identity, which can be a massive risk. I remember when one internet security blogger got targeted by angry hackers who called his utility providers to get his power shut off.

I will say this, please archive his tweets that he does, he will try to delete them. unfortunately i cant do them myself since i am at work but he will most likely go on a deleting rampage, i learnt my lesson from last time :(
