Why bother staying on a forum if you have no friends there?

I'd say part of the joy of being in a forum community is making friends, wouldn't you say?

Fair enough. But when I look at Sluthate developing hobbies and making friends seems to take a backseat to crying over looks the vast majority of the time.

Rhinoplasty and genioplasty are gonna fix maybe 1/10th of your problems, how you gonna find a surgeon who'll file off that neanderthal fucking ridge on your brow? Can they realign them so you look marginally less like a Downs spastic? How about your nonexistant cheekbones? Your cheeks look like sheets of stamped metal for fucks sake. I agree, but of course most of what you read on SH isn't going to be about peoples' lives outside of it. And there's a decent subsection of members with normal enough lives that just have issues with their looks that they are looking to rectify. Most of the actual friendless losers are fucked regardless of looks since they're so socially maladapted, but there is a large enough contigent of regular guys on there.

Ok, so quick story time:

I'm a member of the MST3K Discussion Board, where people talk of the lovely show that is Mystery Science Theater 3000.

A lot of the posters there became close friends, have met up, watched episodes together, shared "2nd family experiences", etc.

And you know what? That shit is fun. It's a big part of why I've been a member there for almost 10 years, I discuss a show I like with people I like.

If no one there liked me, or if they just treated like real serious business, just discussing shit without any kind of friendly banter or atmosphere....what's the point?
