A Florida man allegedly grabbed a boy who refused to remove his mask at a restaurant, got into his face spittle and all, and hissed at him, “You now have coronavirus.”
Jason Copenhaver, 47, of Redington Shores was arrested and charged with simple battery and disorderly conduct, reported WTVT-TV.
The arrest warrant said he was barefoot and appeared “intoxicated” at Ricky T’s Bar and Grille in Treasure Island, reported WTSP-TV.
He also tried to shake the boy’s hand, reported WTVT. When the child — whose age was not given — said no, Copenhaver allegedly grabbed his arm tightly and put their faces close, police said.
“Victim stated that (Copenhaver) was in such close proximity that spit particles from (Copenhaver’s) mouth landed in his face,” an officer wrote in the police report, according to the Associated Press.
Copenhaver then went to the bar, where a worker asked him to sit down, police told WTVT. Instead, the report said, he approached the worker in a “threatening manner and attempted to strike him twice.”
That worker then subdued Copenhaver enough to walk him outside and hold him to the ground until cops came.
Booked into Pinellas County Jail, he walked free after posting $650 bail, WTSP reported.
After all that, Copenhaver told police he has never been tested for coronavirus and has no idea whether he’s infected.
