I watch them occasionally while cooking/cleaning/doing housework. I don't have time for vidya anymore, but I still enjoy them, and this is a way to get some of the enjoyment without the same time commitment. You can skip around if you're bored, switch easily to another game, or just put it on while doing something else, etc. If they're playing something like Minecraft, you can skip the tedious parts and just look at the cool shit they build.

There are a lot of streamers who don't even show their face, or talk much at all, emphasizing the game instead. They're a self insert for you to experience the game vicariously through. Some are even women, like KatherineOfSky, who did a bunch of cool Factorio vids.

It's pretty clear what Pokimane is selling, and it's not that. It's less clear what DSP is selling, but it's also not that. But I can understand the streamer market, especially if you suck at games, or are into games that require a lot of time investment to build something cool.

Most of it. She doesn't pay any meaningful living expenses, she lives in a house with other successful streamers who split expenses. They also have their own brand as well. Pokimane is the most mind numbingly boring streamer I've ever seen but she's not in any danger of bankruptcy and there's long-term value in the brand they've established.

*Edit* She apparently moved out of the OfflineTV house within the last month or so.

For me the game allows for the streamer content to bounce off. Kind of like a comedian using anecdotes or politics
